Review| Contagion – Erin Bowman

I’ve said this recently, but lately the darker books with some twists and turns have really been my favorite. Contagion is a book I’ve had on my shelf for quite some time. A friend and I decided to pick it up as a buddy read. After reading it I really wonder why it took me so long to read this one. Keep on reading to find out more about Contagion and what I thought!

After receiving a distress call from a drill team on a distant planet, a skeleton crew is sent into deep space to perform a standard search-and-rescue mission.

When they arrive, they find the planet littered with the remains of the project—including its members’ dead bodies. As they try to piece together what could have possibly decimated an entire project, they discover that some things are best left buried—and some monsters are only too ready to awakens.

Review

After reading that a crew was being sent on a distress call I knew this book wasn’t going to be a happily ever after! I mean they’re in space and they arrive to a scene of a lot of dead bodies. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be brave enough for a trip like this!

Contagion is told through a few POVs and is action packed from the first page. I read a chapter a day for this buddyread, but I would’ve finished it in no time if I read it on my own. This is a book you just don’t want to put down. I loved the atmosphere and how it wasn’t clear who you could trust or what would happen when you flipped the page. Near the end it was hard to put down.

The characters are really interesting, but I don’t want to talk about them too much, because you really need to experience the characters and their personalities on your own. To be honest, they’re not the most experienced crew you’d want to have in a situation like this. They’re all determined, but it’s hard to know who to trust. There’s betrayal, reveals and things about the world you just don’t expect.

Erin Bowman wrote a book that hooked me from the start filled with interesting characters, intense moments, reveals I didn’t see coming, banter and she had me wanting a few of these characters to make the end of the day. I can’t believe it took me so long to finally read Contagion. I definitely recommend this one!

Contagion was quite a ride and it left me wanting more. I’ll definitely be reading the sequel, Immunity, very soon! Have you read this book? I’d love to hear what you thought. Let me know in the comments!
