Bookish Item | Recent Netgalley eARC’s I Got

I recently got some really cool eARC’s through Netgalley and I thought I would share them with you all. There are some sequels, a standalone and the first in a new duology. I hope to read at least a couple of these really soon! Let’s take a look at them!

Eyes of Kings – Chloe Gong

War beckons in the kingdom of Talin. On one side sits Calla Tuoleimi and Anton Makusa, and on the other, the recently dethroned August Shenzhi and Calla’s own predecessor Sinoa Tuoleimi. Neither will rest until the opposition is buried.

Calla assumed victory would be easy. She wears the divine crown after a violent coup, wielding the most powerful weapon in the kingdom. Then the provinces start to whisper of the old gods returning to earth, and suddenly the game board is flipped upside-down.

Anton thought he aligned himself with victory. When he swore to serve as Calla’s general, he understood the battle they were waging. But he fears Calla is no longer herself with the crown. Rather, he fears that Calla is returning to who she once was.

August would sacrifice anything for victory. He has waited his entire life for the throne, and surrender is not an option. In the face of age-old immortals challenging his terrain and the possibility of betrayal from his closest and most cherished guard, he must be careful who he trusts.

Because when the war ends, there can only be one king.

The action-packed finale to Chloe Gong’s New York Times bestselling Flesh & False Gods trilogy – inspired by Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra – brings readers the ultimate showdown for power among gods and men.

I didn’t realise this was the final book in a trilogy when I requested the eARC haha. Maybe I should look into books a bit more before requesting them. However, I have been wanting to read the Flesh & False Gods series so maybe I should just pick up Immortal Longings soon. That way I can read the whole series in one go! Eyes of Kings will be released early August, so I still have about a month to read these books.

Prince of Swords – Elise Kova

From the Sunday Times bestselling author comes the earth-shattering sequel to the must-read, fantasy sensation Arcana Academy.

I am terrified. Yet my heart skips a beat. This man might be a monster, but he is my monster.

Clara Graysword is Oricalis’s most wanted. Hunted and cornered, not even her mastery of tarot can save her this time . . . until the mysterious Worldkeepers appear. This secretive order may hold the key to changing Clara’s fate. If she dares to trust them.

But the most dangerous alliance of all is one she’s already deeply ensnared within: Prince Kaelis.

Kaelis, second-born prince of Oricalis and headmaster of Arcana Academy, is the one man she can’t escape – maybe she doesn’t want to escape. Ruthless, dangerous, and bound to Clara by destiny and desire, Kaelis tests her heart as much as her loyalty. Together, they grow closer to the most powerful secrets of the tarot . . . and to the truths they both hide that could destroy the passion that they no longer deny.

Hidden in plain sight within Arcana Academy, Clara walks the dagger’s edge. Revelations about Oricalis threaten everything she thought she knew, and every choice she makes is the difference between salvation and ruin.

To change the world, Clara must risk everything – her power, her beliefs, and her heart.

This is the sequel to Arcana Academy, a book I also got through Netgalley. I haven’t completely read that one yet, but this might just be the push I need to finally pick it back up. Prince of Swords will be released in about 3 weeks, so I have to hurry up with Arcana Academy. The early reviews are really positive, so I have high hopes!

As You Wake, Break the Shell – Becky Chambers

The stars are waiting for you. We hope you will come find us there.

Told in alternating timelines, As You Wake, Break the Shell is a heartfelt and hopeful story from the award-winning writer of The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, exploring what it means to be human and what it means to come together.

Life on Fortune is hard. The atmosphere is poisonous, the planet hardly fit for life. But for its inhabitants, it’s home.

Pilot Cora suffers from a rare and dangerous condition, brought about by her bond with Colibri, the alien animal she pilots to quarry vital water for the colony. If Cora seeks treatment, she risks losing her license – and her connection to Colibri forever.

Then she meets Signy, a brilliant but reclusive botanist, whose bio-printed medicine is the only thing that can save her. But to do so, Signy must break the rules that govern their lives, risking her livelihood and the other colonists who rely on her for survival.

As Cora and Signy navigate their balance of risk and trust, they are forced to confront what they owe to each other and to their community – and begin to question whether survival is enough . . .

I have loved every single Becky Chambers book I have read so far, so of course I requested this one as soon as I saw it. Before even looking at the synopsis haha! After reading the synopsis I’m even more excited. Becky Chambers writes sci-fi that feels like literary fiction in my opinion. I can’t wait to cry over these fictional characters.
