Review| Love on Ice – Sara Ney

In the past, I’ve read a few of Sara Ney’s adult romances before, so I was really curious to read her first YA sports romance. Today I want to tell you all about Love on Ice and what I thought. Keep on reading to find out more!

A big thank you to Netgalley and Delacorte Romance for providing me with an eARC to read and review. This doesn’t affect my opinion in any way!

What’s a girl to do when the star of the hockey team crash lands in her backyard after a prank gone wrong? Help him cover up the evidence…in exchange for him posing as the perfect prom date, of course. Get ready to swoon with this hilarious YA rom-com debut from the USA Today bestselling author of The Studying Hours Sara Ney!

Harper Conrad figures when opportunity knocks, smart girls listen. Which is why when she catches high school hockey star Easton Burbank trespassing on her parents’ property after stealing their rival school’s mascot, she knows exactly what to do.

The deal is simple. In exchange for Harper’s silence, Easton will become her date to their upcoming prom. It’s a win-win Easton doesn’t lose his hockey scholarship over a silly prank, and Harper can finally justify her purchase of the mega-expensive prom dress sitting in her closet. The perfect bargain…but what happens when what starts as a cover-up begins to feel all too real?

You know how the saying goes, “If you like someone, set them free. If they come back to you, they were meant to be your prom date.” Or something like that.

Review

In the past I’ve read a few adult romances by Sara Ney, so I was curious about what she’d do with a YA romance. Love on Ice was a fast and entertaining read.

Harper is reading in her backyard one evening when Easton, a hockey player, stumbles into her yard with a stolen mascot and she gets some ideas. Her dream is to go to prom, so why not make this incident work in her favor? In Love on Ice we get lots of banter and typical teen drama. That can be frustrating at times, but it fits the age and dealing with feelings and new relationships.

Easton and Harper slowly get closer during their fake dating deal and it feels genuine. Their connection doesn’t happen overnight and they don’t even realize it at first. Also, everyone deserves a best friend like Macy. She was just so much fun! While I had a great time reading, I do feel like things went a bit fast near the end and some things didn’t get wrapped up.

That being said, I would definitely read more YA books by Sara and hope she writes more. If you’re looking for a fast and fun read, I definitely recommend Love on Ice.

Sports romances are definitely something that continue to make me happy! What’s your go to genre that makes you feel happy? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
