After finishing one show, I was looking for something else when I came across Ballard. I was intrigued because it had Maggie Q as the lead and I have loved her since Nikita (and also; now I want to rewatch Nikita) and it’s about a cold case ‘unit’. There have been a lot of shows about cold cases that I really enjoyed, so I hoped that would be the case with this one as well. Let’s see what I thought about it!
LAPD Detective Renee Ballard oversees a new cold case division in the department.
There is currently one season that consist of 10 episodes. I didn’t know before I started watching this that it’s a spin-off show from Bosch and specifically Bosch: Legacy. Those shows are based on the book series about Bosch and I have watched and read neither haha. I will say I have been interested in them and after watching Ballard I have gone back and started watching Bosch.
As I said, I really like shows about cold cases and I recently watched and enjoyed Department Q. I’m always looking for more shows like this and Ballard was one I really enjoyed. Renee Ballard has obviously gone through some stuff and that is part of the plot. I feel like every single cold case detective has gone through something in shows like this, but I liked how it was part of the storyline in this show.
We get one main case, but we also get some other cases. This made for interesting storylines and I also feel like it’s a little bit more realistic to not just focus on one cold case (even though the timeline is still very unrealistic). I enjoyed the cases! The characters were also really interesting and I liked how their relationships with each other evolved. There were some really emotional moments for sure!
The season ends on a major cliffhanger and I really hope we’re getting a second season. I would be so upset if this is were the show ends. As I mentioned, I already started watching Bosch, together with Bosch: Legacy I have 98 episodes to tie me over until we get a second season. I would definitely recommend this show, it might not be the best detective show I’ve ever seen but I was engaged the whole time and I had a great time watching. Have you seen this show? Or Bosch and Bosch: Legacy? I would love to hear from you down below!
