Show Sunday | Dept. Q

Last week I started watching a new show. And I finished it in about 2 days haha. So of course I wanted to tell all of you about it. Today I’ll share my thoughts on one of Netflix’s newest shows; Dept. Q. Let’s jump in!

Carl, a former top-rated detective, is wracked with guilt following an attack that left his partner paralyzed and another policeman dead. On his return to work, Carl is assigned to a cold case that will consume his life.

I didn’t really look at the description of the show, I just saw something about a brilliant detective and I was intrigued haha. If I’m being honest, I’m always looking for shows or movies just like this. I can’t fully explain it, it’s a bit specific, but it’s what I love most. Anyway, because I didn’t read the description I was really surprised in the first part of the episode haha. It was a good surprise though and I was happy to not have read the description!

There are 9 episodes, most episodes are about an hour long. Our main character Carl heads a new department focused on cold cases, but this first season focuses on just one case. The first episode had a bit of a twist at the end I was hoping for since about 3/4 of the episode. I really liked it!

The mystery of the cold case was pretty good! Although the end wasn’t really surprising. I think it all fit really well with the clues that were laid out for us, but at the same time I was hoping for a bit more of a twist. The ‘twist’ in the first episode was probably the most shocking of the whole season.

I really enjoyed this show! The characters grew on me for sure. They are far from perfect, the each had their flaws and I really liked that. I feel like UK shows usually have characters that feel more real than US shows characters. Hopefully we get another season because I would love to know more about these characters! The show is based on a book series, so I might have to pick that up as well.
