I’ve said it before, but Laura Steven wrote one of my favorite books (The Exact Opposite of Okay), so I love seeing what she gives us next. Our Infinite Fates is her newest release and today I want to tell you about this book and what I thought.
A big thank you to Netgalley and Wednesday books for providing me with an ALC to read and review. I read this one physically while listening along to the audiobook after I got my hardcover copy. This doesn’t affect my opinion in any way.
The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue meets This is How You Lose The Time War in this fantastical love story that defies death as two souls reincarnate through the centuries.
They’ve loved each other in a thousand lifetimes. They’ve killed each other in every one.
Evelyn remembers all her past lives. She also remembers that in every single one, she’s been murdered before her eighteenth birthday by Arden, a supernatural being whose soul―and survival―is tethered to hers.
The problem is that she’s quite fond of the life she’s in now, and her little sister needs her for bone marrow transplants in order to stay alive. If Evelyn wants to save her sister, she’ll have to:
- Find the centuries-old devil who hunts her through each life―before they find her first.
- Figure out why she’s being hunted and finally break their curse.
- Try not to fall in love.
Review
“I love you, I have loved you, and I will love you.”
Evelyn our main character is frustrated that she keeps dying before her 18th birthday and not quite knowing why. She knows is keeps happening, but has yet to remember why this is the case. Arden seems to know everything, but won’t give her any answers. This time she’s determined to live past 18 and experience life and save her sister. That’s her biggest goal. While the pacing is slow, I understand why, and a lot still happens.
“If a hero is someone who will give up love to save the world, then a villain is the reverse. Someone who will give up the world to save love.”
If it were up to Arden, he wouldn’t keep taking her life before 18, but there just isn’t a choice. Even though we don’t get his POV, it’s clear this is just as painful for him. I enjoyed them talking about their past lives and remembering different things from each one. When he did finally tell her what the reason was this has to happen if every lifetime, I was surprised. It was such an interesting twist and I appreciated how Laura Steven ended this book. It could’ve gone many ways, but I loved it wasn’t the “easy” way out. It’s hard to explain that without spoiling, but I really loved how the book ended.
Sofia Oxenham is the narrator for Our Infinite Fates brought our characters to life with so much emotion. Listening to the audiobook while reading along in my physical copy really made me reading experience more special. I’d definitely love to listen to more audiobooks narrated by Sofia.
Laura Steven did it again! I really loved Our Infinite Fates and I’m very excited to read Laura’s next release, Silvercloak, in a couple of months. Have you read any amazing fantasy books recently? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
