We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Books Set in Another Time. And the topic was also expanded by this; These can be historical, futuristic, alternate universes, or even in a world where you’re not sure when it takes place you just know it’s not right now. I tried to pick 10 books I have on my TBR for this topic. So let’s se rif o could find 10 books set in another time that I still have to read!
1. The Future of Another Timeline – Annalee Newitz
I mean, it already has ‘another timeline’ in the title haha. This is a timetravel book and I LOVE those. It’s also set in 2 different times, 1992 and 2022 so it fits this topic perfectly. I’ve had this one on my TBR for quite a while now, hopefully I can pick it up soonish.
2. Escaping from Houdini – Kerri Maniscalco
This book is set in 1889, it’s the third book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. I didn’t love the first 2 books and I was debating if I should just stop with the series. But I loved the titles for the third and fourth books so I still have hope that I will read these. And hopefully I’ll enjoy them more than the first two books!
3. An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason – Virginia Boecker
This book is set in the time of William Shakespeare and I’m really curious about it! The reviews are pretty divided but I would love to see where I fall on the scale. I like that the main characters have to play leads in a Shakespeare play and are also on opposite sides of a murder plot against Queen Elizabeth I.
4. The City of Brass – S.A. Chakraborty
This is set in 18th century Caïro. The last book I read that was set in historical Caïro was fantastic, so I have pretty high hopes based on that alone haha. I also loved the S.A. Chakraborty book I’ve already read and I have heard nothing but amazing things about this book (and the rest of the series).
5. Orphan Monster Spy – Matt Killeen
I used to read a lot of World War II books and I still am very much interested in those books. ‘A Jewish girl-turned-spy must infiltrate an elite Nazi boarding school’ is how this one was described, and of course I was intrigued right away. As you might know, I love reading about boarding schools and that our girl is a spy raises the stakes so much.
6. Invictus – Ryan Graudin
Another time travel book! This one has been on the top of my TBR for years and years now…. After looking at the synopsis again I just know I will love this one. A time traveling heist crew, trying to get stuff from a sinking Titanic, sign me up!
7. A Curious Beginning – Deanna Raybourn
I actually started reading this one a while ago, and I still have to pick it back up haha. This one is set in 1887 London and it’s a mystery. It’s also the start of a series and has great reviews. Some of my bookish friends love love love this book and I really want to love it as well.
8. These Shallow Graves – Jennifer Donnelly
I remember getting this book and only at home realising this was not a fantasy book like I thought it was haha. It’s a historical mystery and I have been debating if I should unhaul it for a while now. The reviews are actually quite positive so I might have to give this one a chance before getting rid of it.
9. Mortal Heart – Robin LaFevers
I really liked the first two books in the His Fair Assassin series and I have been planning on reading this third one for years now. Some of my bookish friends liked this one best out of the whole series so I hope I will enjoy it too. I have forgotten a lot since it’s been years so I’m scared to start it now. But I also have the first book in the spinoff series and I would love to get to that one haha, so I should just get on with this one.
10. The Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller
I have heard so many good things about this one. It’s set in Ancient Greece and features a lot of Greek heroes. I know this one will break my heart and I have to be in the right mindset to get into this one, but I’m excited to do so at some point haha.
These were 10 books set in a different time that I still have on my TBR. Have you read any of them? Which one should I pick up first? I would love to hear from you!
These Shallow Graves looks interesting.
I really should read The City of Brass sometime.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I think I would read ‘An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason’ first, based on the information about the book! Thanks for the great recommendations, I also added many of these to my TBR, they all look fantastic.

I read An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it. There’s drama, intrigue, and of course romance.
