Bookhaul | December 2024

Happy New Year! Today it’s time for us to star the year with our last bookhaul of 2024. Did we find any books under the Christmas tree? Or add any books to our shelves ourselves? Keep on reading our December bookhaul to find out!

Candyce

December tends to be the month with my biggest haul and December 2024 isn’t any different. Santa was very sweet to me, and I ended up adding 28 books to my shelves. Let’s take a look, because this is going to take me a bit to talk about everything, haha.

A Language of Dragons – S.F. Williamson

A Language of Dragons is the December YA Fairyloot book and it’s one I didn’t already have on my radar. That being said, this book sounds really good. This description in the synopsis had me sold: An epic, sweeping fantasy with an incredible Dark Academia setting, a clandestine, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance, and an unputdownable story, filled with twists and turns, betrayals and secret identities.”.

Heavenly Bodies – Imani Errui

Heavenly Bodies is the December Fairyloot Romantasy book and I think it’s the most stunning edition I’ve added to my shelves this year. When this book was self-published a few of the booktubers I watch, read and loved this story. I hope I love this gorgeous book.

Quicksilver – Callie Hart

Quicksilver is a book that took over the bookish world when it released in June of this year. I remember seeing this romantasy everywhere. It sounds right up my alley, and I ordered my copy when the traditionally published version was released. I’ll be reading this one in January for my monthly swoonalong read.

The Bright Sword – Lev Grossman

Last month during my monthly book club, two of us nominated The Bright Sword for our January read. This one takes place after King Arthur’s death and focuses on the members of the Round Table. The Bright Sword is a big book, but I’ve heard some great things about it.

An Ember in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir

Another book club read for me this month is An Ember in the Ashes. The series slayers group I’m in is tackling this as our first series of 2025. I decided to get the new paperback that has been released. It’s so floppy!

Kingmakers: Year Three – Sophie Lark

Even though I haven’t read the first two books, I’m collecting the editions of this series with sprayed edges. I love all the colors! Sophie Lark is an author I’ve enjoyed many books by, so it’s a series I dare to buy before reading the books.

God of Wrath – Rina Kent

Just like with the Kingmakers series, I’ve been collecting the special editions of the Legacy of Gods series. Rina Kent is an author with a lot of books and a few of my friends love her books. So I’m going down that rabbit hole in 2025!

Make the Season Bright – Ashley Herring Blake

Ashley Herring Blake is an author that keeps surprising me with her amazing romances! So when I saw we were getting a holiday release, I had to add Make the Season Bright to my shelves. This one was actually my December swoonalong read, so you’ll be able to see what I thought in our wrap up tomorrow.

Wicked – Gregory Maguire

The movie adaptation of Wicked is one I’m really curious about. It’s a story I’ve been intrigued about, but I’ve never had a chance to see the Broadway show. I just recently learned it’s based on this book, so I thought I’d give it a go. This one seems to have some mixed reviews and I’ve heard it’s a lot different than the movie/Broadway show. We’ll see what I think soon.

Reckless – Lauren Roberts

Even though Powerless was a bit of a let down for me, I am curious to see how the series continues. The third and final book releases in April, so I put Reckless on my wishlist. I do really love these covers.

Not Another Love Song & Forget Me Not – Julie Soto

I’ve seen both of these books around everywhere when they released, and I’ve been curious about this author. Not Another Love Song and Forget Me Not have both received some amazing reviews and I think I’ll love them both.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy – Megan Bannen

If I’m honest, I don’t really know much about The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. All I know is that people seem to love this book. A friend of mine recently loved it and it has me intrigued. I think I’ll go into this one blind.

The Prison Healer – Lynette Noni

The Prison Healer is the first book of this trilogy and it’s one I’ve been wanting to read since this released in 2021. I probably won’t be reading it until later in the year, because it’s one of my series slayers reads of 2025. At least I have the first book ready to go.

You, Again – Kate Goldbeck

An enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance is something I don’t think I’ve ever read. You, Again released in 2023 and caught my eye then. I just never got around to reading it. So I thought it was a good time to add to my wishlist when I recently saw someone talking about this book.

Beach Read – Emily Henry

So Beach Read is a book I’ve already read, and it was my first Emily Henry book. It’s also the only one I didn’t physically own. This is one I added to my wishlist to complete my collection, but also because I’m hoping to reread Beach Read soon.

The Only Pirate at the Party – Lindsey Stirling

Non fiction isn’t something I normally pick up, but I tend to if it’s about someone I’m a fan of. I’ve seen Lindsey Stirling in concert twice now and her story interests me. So when I saw this book existed, I knew I wanted to read it.

The Ex Vows – Jessica Joyce

You, with a View by this author was a five star read for me and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of The Ex Vows. I just don’t know why I haven’t picked it up before now, haha. This second chance romance is one I hope to read soon.

Behind the Net & That Kind of Guy – Stephanie Archer

Stephanie Archer is a pretty popular romance author that I haven’t read anything from yet. So I figured I’d grab the first book in two of her series to give a try. I know one is a sport romance and I always tend to love those.

Honey Cut – Sierra Simone

Salt Kiss was a pleasant surprise for me after not enjoying Priest by this author. It was very spicy, but also very emotional. Honey Cut is the second book in this series and I love the covers. I hope this one is just as good as the first.

This Summer Will Be Different – Carley Fortune

Carley Fortune’s books seem to be ones you love or you don’t. So far I’ve enjoyed Carley’s first two books. Again, I’m not sure why I haven’t picked up This Summer Will Be Different Yet, but it was one I wanted to read. I now need to decide if I’ll read this one soon or wait until the summer.

A Novel Love Story – Ashley Poston

Ashley Poston writes romance with a touch of magical realism and I eat them up. In A Novel Love Story our main character ends up in her favorite fictional town. What reader wouldn’t want that?

How to End a Love Story – Yulin Kuang

Two writers with a complicated past end up working on the same TV show. We all know that this will be interesting. I’ve seen quite a few good reviews about this one and it sounds like a book right up my alley.

Rivals & Reign – Katharine McGee

After having the first two books of this series on my shelves for years, I finally picked them up earlier this year. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed those books. So of course, I need to make it possible to finish this series. I’m hoping to finish this one in January!

Midnight is the Darkest Hour – Ashley Winstead

I’ve been wanting to read more by Ashley Winstead and Midnight is the Darkest Hour caught my eye. I want to say that people mentioned Twilight vibes from this one or that our main character is a fan. That definitely had me intrigued.

Hopeless – Elsie Silver

In 2023 I read Flawless and loved that book so much. The last two months I’ve been devouring the rest of the series. Hopeless is the final book and was the only one I didn’t own yet. I’ve been wanting to read Beau’s story since Jasper’s book and I’m so excited to finally get to it. I am sad the series will be over after this!

Isabelle

My December haul is the complete opposite of Candyce’s haha. I somehow didn’t get any books for Christmas! Even ‘worse’ I didn’t get any physical books at all in December. I did however get a couple of audiobooks in the Audible sale, so I will share those with you!

The Seven Year Slip – Ashley Poston

I’ve seen a lot of great things about this one. Even though it isn’t my usual genre, I think I might really enjoy it! I previously have read and enjoyed book by Ashley Poston, hopefully this is another one on the ‘enjoy’ list.

Spellslinger & Shadowblack – Sebastien de Castell

I’ve had Spellslinger on my physical TBR for quite a while now and decided to get the audiobook now that is was on sale. The second book in the series was part of the sale as well so I added it too. I just know I’ll get to it faster this way!

When the Moon Hatched – Sarah A. Parker

This one wasn’t part of the sale, but one I got earlier this month. I really wanted to read this book and I got the physical book this summer, I just knew getting the audiobook was going to help me.

So that’s our December 2024 bookhaul! Did Santa bring you any bookish gifts? Or have you read any of these? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
