Looking Back at Our Bookhauls| September 2023

It’s that time of the month that we take a look back on our bookhauls. Do we actually read the books we add to our shelves? These posts are a good motivator to read what you buy. Today we’ll be looking back on our September 2023 bookhaul. Let’s take a look to see how we did!

Candyce

We usually take our vacation time in September, so I knew this would be quite the haul. I ended up adding 17 books to my shelves in September 2023. Let’s see how many of them I’ve read!

Star Bringer – Tracy Wolff & Nina Croft
Unread

I think the size of this book has kind of put me off picking Star Bringer up right away. This year I have been reading more bigger books, so hopefully I can get to this one before the year is over.

A Lady’s Guide to Scandal – Sophie Irwin
Unread

Since I still haven’t read the first book in this series, I still haven’t picked up A Lady’s Guide to Scandal. I am glad that I decided to order this special edition. It really is stunning!

Binding 13 & Keeping 13 – Chloe Walsh
Unread

The Boys of Tommen is a really popular series and I now own the five books that are currently out now. They are pretty big, so I haven’t really made time to pick them up. That being said, I did finally start Magnolia Parks. So I have hope that I’ll read at least these two before the end of 2024.

House of Salt and Sorrows – Erin A. Craig
Read

When I added House of Salt and Sorrows to my collection, it was for a reread before reading the sequel. House of Salt and Sorrows is a book perfect for this time of year. I highly recommend reading this one if you haven’t.

The Long Game – Elena Armas
Read

The Long Game was a grumpy/sunshine sports romance I was excited to read. It was okay, but it didn’t end up being a favorite of mine. After both The Long Game and The Spanish Love Deception not being books I’ve really enjoyed, I’m not sure this author is for me.

Things We Left Behind  – Lucy Score
Unread

Things We Left Behind is the final book in this trilogy, and I guess I don’t want this one to end. Sloane and Lucian are characters I’ve been curious about since meeting them in the first book. There have been some mixed reviews, but I’m still really excited to read Things We Left Behind.

Every Exquisite Thing – Lauren Steven
Read

Every Exquisite Thing is a book I was really interested while reading. I read it recently and have to say the vibes are perfect for this time of year. This story had me hooked from the start. The only thing that bugged me was that the ending wrapped up really quickly. I would’ve loved just a bit more time with all of the reveals.

Fall of Ruin and Wrath – Jennifer L. Armentrout
Unread

Jennifer L. Armentrout is a favorite author of mine, but I haven’t read Fall of Ruin and Wrath yet. Even though I’m really excited, I’ve decided to wait a little closer to the release of the sequel. Seeing how it seems she’ll be finishing the From Blood and Ash world, it may be quite some time before this happens.

Powerless – Lauren Roberts
Read

Powerless is a hyped book that went kind of viral when it released. I’m always a little worried when it comes to really hyped books, but I still sat down and read it. Powerless seemed like a book I would love. Unfortunately, it was just an okay read for me. It ended up being a bit too much like The Hunger Games for my liking. I do want to continue with the series though.

All Rhodes Lead Here – Mariana Zapata
Unread

Mariana Zapata is an author I’ve been wanting to read for a few years now. For some reason this still hasn’t happened. I do really want to make an effort to read All Rhodes Lead Here before the end of the year.

Forever Never – Lucy Score
Unread

Forever Never is a book I haven’t read yet, but I’m not sure why? By the looks of the cover this takes place in the winter, so maybe that’s when I should pick this one up?

Finally Mine – Lucy Score
Read

Gloria and Aldo were characters I became invested in while reading the first book in this series. Why didn’t I pick up their story sooner? Finally Mine was such an emotional read, but also had me smiling. It really hits in all the feels.

Murder in the Family – Cara Hunter
Read

As I said in the bookhaul, Murder in the Family is told through transcripts for this TV show, interviews, emails, etc. I loved the concept and definitely had a good time reading this one. The twist near the end wasn’t what I was expecting, but I still had a great time!

Good Bad Girl – Alice Feeney
Read

Good Bad Girl is told from multiple POVs and that kept me wondering what actually happened. I can tell you the twists near the end of the book were surprising and not at the same time? I figured out a few of them and was surprised by others.

Salt Kiss – Sierra Simone
Read

Salt Kiss ended up being a book I devoured and ended up really loving! It’s spicy and nothing like I’ve read before it. The sequel is now out in the world and I’m hoping to pick it up soon.

Charm – Tracy Wolff
Unread

Charm is one of the two books I need to read to finish the Crave series. I’ve loved these books more than expected. Things that happen feel like a train crash you just can’t stop watching, haha. I’ve become so invested in these characters.

End Result
Read: 8/17 – 47%
TBR: 9/17 – 53%

Isabelle

September 2023 was a pretty decent month for me, I did get 2 new books. They were both books I really wanted to read and especially the second one I bought because I needed to own the physical copy (mostly because of the map haha).

Every Exquisite Thing – Laura Steven
Unread

It’s such a shame that I still haven’t read this one yet. I love Laura Steven as a person and I have enjoyed her books a lot. This is actually not the only one of hers on my TBR. And she has a new book coming out that sounds incredible as well. So I should really start reading her books again!

Assistant to the Villain – Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Read

I read this one this summer and really enjoyed it! It was a fun book and I laughed out loud multiple times. The sequel released not too long ago and I already own it. I hope to read it and enjoy it just as much as the first one soon!

End Result
Read: 1/2 – 50%
TBR: 1/2 – 50%
