Review| Prime Time Romance – Kate Robb

Besides books, I’m a big fan of TV shows. I often watch them while blogging or in the evening! They can be a great comfort when you’re not feeling well or upset. So when I read the synopsis for Prime Time Romance, I knew I needed this book. I did read Prime Time Romance and I want to tell you what I thought about it today!

A big thank you to Netgalley and Dial Press Trade Paperback for providing me with an eARC to read and review. This doesn’t affect my opinion in any way.

Is love on the small screen better than the real thing?

A young divorcée finds herself in the ideal world of her favorite 2000s teen soap in this “gleefully nostalgic and completely fresh”* romance from the author of This Spells Love.

Newly divorced on the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Brynn is sick of heartbreak. She thought she had found her happy ending, but now she’s living with a roommate, Josh, to afford her mortgage, and she’s trying to adjust to her new single life. At least she’s got Carson’s Cove to binge, her beloved 2000s teenage soap. The show ended unexpectantly on a cliffhanger after five seasons, and the two main characters, Sloan and Spencer, never got to declare their love for each other. The show is still perfect in Brynn’s eyes; despite all the drama that goes down, things always have a way of working out in Carson’s Cove . . . unlike her own life.

So when a birthday cake surprisingly shows up on her and Josh’s doorstep, Brynn makes a wish for the one thing she’s always wanted (but has failed to achieve herself): a happily-ever-after.

The next morning, she doesn’t wake up in her apartment. She’s in Carson’s Cove . . . and Josh is there too. Everyone seems to know them, except they’re not Brynn and Josh; they’re Sloan, the sweetheart of Carson’s Cove, and Fletch, the town’s bad boy. And to get home, they have to make Brynn’s wish come true by ensuring Sloan and Spencer, the hometown heartthrob, end up together at last. But as they spend more time together, Brynn and Josh realize that Carson’s Cove might not be as perfect as seen on television . . . especially when they start developing feelings for each other in a plot twist no one has expected. Will they stick to the script, or will real love change the story forever?

Review

Besides reading, one of my favorite things to do is watch TV shows. Dawson’s Creek, Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural are a few of my favorites, so when I heard about Prime Time Romance I knew I needed to read it. Being pulled into the world of your favorite TV show seems like a lot of fun, but also a nightmare. After reading this, I’ll definitely choose to just keep on watching my shows instead of living in them. Today I want to talk about five reasons why I loved Prime Time Romance.

1. TV show references
As someone who watches quite a few TV shows, I definitely picked up on the hints to other shows while reading Prime Time Romance. Some characters have names that are definitely hinting at actors and characters. Also, some of the things that supposedly happen on Carson’s Cove come close to things I’ve seen on other shows. This really made my TV show loving heart very happy. I loved that the author talked about some of these references and her love for some TV shows.

2. Dual POV
I think Prime Time Romance worked really well for me, because we got to read from Brynn’s and Josh’s POV. I feel like this made the story more complete and definitely made me get to know and love these characters more. Both of our characters haven’t had the easiest time in life recently and are trying to figure out what they want.

3. The Romance
So Brynn was supposed to give her favorite main character her happily ever after with the star of Carson’s Cove, but Josh (the bad boy in the show) keeps catching her attention. I loved the chemistry between Brynn and Josh. Being together in this whole adventure brings them closer together and they really started opening up to each other. The scenes with these two together had me smiling.

4. Character Development
Even though Brynn and Josh are stuck in a TV show and are technically somebody else, they definitely start figuring out stuff about their actual lives. Both kind of get confident boosts and start dreaming about what could be. The lessons these shows try and give people were definitely affecting these two. I also loved Brynn near the end and when she took her moment to shine, she really took it!

5. The Side Characters
Because Prime Time Romance takes place in a TV show, we get quite the cast of characters. I loved meeting them all and loved some more than others, but they really helped this story be what it is. I feel like we got the typical best friend and rivals, and the crush where there’s a will they, won’t they plot. These characters made this book come to life and I loved it.

Prime Time Romance was such a fun read! I also have This Spells Love by this author and I’ll definitely pick this up soon. I need to read more by Kate Robb. If you were to be sent into your favorite TV show, where would you be? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
