TTT #353 | Planes, Trains & Automobiles

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Planes, Trains & Automobiles or Books Featuring Travel. I mostly read fantasy and they usually travel by horse in those books haha. But I’m sure I can think of some books where they use more modern modes of transportation, let’s jump in.

1. Five Survive – Holly Jackson

Okay, so this one has some travelling at the start and then the rest of the book they don’t actually travel anymore but they stay put in the vehicle the whole time. So I would say that still counts haha. I enjoyed this one for sure!

2. Killers of a Certain Age – Deanna Raybourn

This book was a lot of fun! They main characters are travelling all over the world and we see different types of transportation. While the plot wasn’t the best thing ever, it was just really fun and sometimes that all you need.

3. You’re Invited – Amanda Jayatissa

This was a great thriller! We start of with a trip to Sri Lanka and that is where most of the book takes place. They aren’t travelling that much during the rest of the book but since it all takes place on that trip, I think it still counts.

4. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet – Becky Chambers

This is travelling by space ship! I really like reading sci-fi stories and I should do so more often. Most of the book takes place on the space ship while the crew is travelling to this one spot. It is a pretty cosy sci-fi story.

5. Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir

Another sci-fi story, but this one isn’t cosy at all. It also mostly takes place on a space ship, but this time with only one character. It has a completely different vibe than the previous book I mentioned, but it was also a very enjoyable book.

6. Wayward Son – Rainbow Rowell

I actually don’t remember that much about this book anymore, I just remember that there was a roadtrip across the United States. This was an enjoyable book but like I said, for me it didn’t really make much of a lasting impression.

7. Small Spaces – Katherine Arden

There’s literally a school bus on the cover, so this one definitely fits. I will admit there isn’t a lot of travelling but the kids go on a school trip so that works for me. This is a MG horror story and I was scared for sure. I don’t really do horror, only MG horror and even that is scary haha.

8. Spell on Wheels – Kate Leth

I had to put this graphic novel on the list as well. This is about three travelling witches and I really liked this one. The art is gorgeous and I still need to get my hands on the second volume. It’s too bad there aren’t any more volumes because I would for sure keep on reading this one.

9. Phobos – Victor Dixen

This one I actually read in Dutch, it was originally published in French but there is also an English translation. It’s another sci-fi story and this one takes place during a trip to Mars. We follow a kind of dating show in space but it’s also a bit of a thriller. It was an interesting, enjoyable read!

10. Murder on the Orient Express – Agatha Christie

I just had to end my list with this one. Basically the whole book takes place on a train ride so they are travelling the whole time. I love a murder mystery and this one is a pretty good one in my opinion. The movie was really enjoyable as well.

And that was my list of 10 books involving transportation. I had trouble not picking any time travel books haha, but I guess I will leave those for a future Top Ten Tuesday. Have you read any of these books? Did you like them? Let me know down below!

  1. I was so hoping someone would list Murder on the Orient Express! I almost went that route, with Death on the Nile included but went another direction. Lol.

Small Spaces and Spell on Wheels both look good!
