TTT #351 | Books I Wish Had Less Romance

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books I Wish Had More/Less …. And the first thing I thought of was Books I Wish Had Less Romance. While I have been enjoying romance stories more and more lately and I have reading quite some Romantasy, I do often wish books had less romance so I’m sure I could make a list with 10 of these (or at least, I hope so haha). So let’s dive in!

1. Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas

While I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series, I also wanted to skip some of the romance sometimes haha. Like I just wanted to go back to all the fighting and politics and scheming and what not haha.

2. This Is Not the Jess Show – Anna Carey

This book had such an interesting premise! But it fell a bit flat for me and I think that was in large part because of the romance plot. It didn’t feel believable at all, and yes I know there is a lot more in this book that might not be believable but for me the romance part was what I couldn’t get over haha.

3. The Beautiful – Renée Ahdieh

This is a vampire book but it was a lot different than most people expected. And while I didn’t mind that and did enjoy it a lot, there was a big emphasis on the romance part. I do think it was an important part of the story and was needed but I would’ve liked it if it was a little less.

4. An Amber in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir

I did enjoy this book a lot but there was a dreaded love triangle haha. Once again, I enjoyed the world and the plot but wayyyyy too much romance for me personally. I still have to read the last book in the series but I have to say I’m not that interested.

5. The Kiss of Deception – Mary E. Pearson

While I did enjoy some of the romance, and the literal plot of the first book is all about romance, I tought it was just too much. In all 3 books there is a lot of romance and decisions made based on romance and it was simply too much for me.

6. The Loneliness of Distant Beings – Kate Ling

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this book on here! This is one I read years ago but I remember being really disappointed. It had an insta love at it’s core and while the idea of the story could’ve been interesting there was way too much importance placed on the romance and almost all of the decisions made were driven by that romance.

7. Shadow & Bone – Leigh Bardugo

While I love Leigh Bardugo and I love this world, I could’ve done with a little less romance. I think this world is so cool and wished we could’ve gotten more badass Alina content. Luckily there are more books in this world and I adore them more haha.

7 books I thought could do with a little less romance! I’m sure I have read more but I guess I blocked them from my memory haha. Do you understand why I picked these? Or do you think I’m insane? Let me know down below!
