5 On My TBR| Contemporary Books on My TBR

As we’ve mentioned before, one of our most important reading goals of is shrinking our physical TBR’s. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books we still have or what subjects to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.

This week’s topic is in translation, but that’s not really one working for me at the moment. I was supposed to do the July 1st theme, but of course our bookhaul came online instead, so I’m choosing to do this one now. I have quite a few contemporary books on my TBR that I need to get to, so take a look!

Romantic Comedy – Curtis Sittenfeld

Romantic Comedy is a book I saw quite a lot when it released and I finally picked up a copy myself this year. I love the fact that our main character is a sketch writer for a late night comedy show. I’ve flipped through the books and also saw emails, etc. I’m intrigued.

Pack Up the Moon – Kristan Higgins

Sometimes I need a book that hits me in all the feels and I know Pack Up the Moon will be one of those. Our main character loses his wife to cancer and she’s left him letters for the first year she’s gone. That alone already makes me want to cry, haha. I know this is going to be emotional, but I’ve heard this is a beautiful book.

Far From the Tree – Robin Benway

Our main character, Grace, is a sixteen year old girl who just gave her baby up for adoption. That’s what makes her decide to find out more about her biological mother and discovers two siblings she never knew about. I have a feeling this is going to be another emotional story, but it sounds like one I won’t be able to put down.

A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow – Laura Taylor Namey

Lila had a plan in place for after graduation, but things don’t go as she had in mind. For her mental health, her parents send her to England for three months to stay with family friends. While the synopsis does mention she meets a boy and I have a feeling that this will lead to a bit more romance, I think she’s also going to discover a lot about herself.

Forever, Interrupted – Taylor Jenkins Reid

Elsie just happens to stumble into Ben at a pizza shop and their chemistry has them inseparable after that. They’re eloped in a few weeks and when Ben is in an accident 9 days later, he doesn’t make it. Things get complicated when she heads to the hospital and meets his mother who has no clue she existed. I know this is going to be another emotional read.

So here are five contemporary books on my TBR that aren’t all romance heavy. I definitely have some emotional ones here as well. Have you read any of these? What did you think? If not, what contemporary books are on your TBR? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
