Earlier this year I read vol I of Diary of a romantica and I absolutely loved it! So ever since I had vol II on my wishlist. And after another failed attempt at love I figured it would be nice to treat myself to this poetry collection. Let’s see what I thought of this one!
We present the debut poetry (e)book from the viral social media phenom, Celia (ceis) Martínez AKA diaryofaromantica (on Instagram) and powerhouseofthecel (on TikTok). From the head and heart of the hopeful romantica Yale alumna, “diary of a romantica, vol. II” brings to life part two of the poetic journey of falling in love.
Like the first volume this poetry collection has both poems and beautiful images that go with the poems. The poems have dates with them to show the passage of time, just as it would be in a regular diary.
Almost all of the poems are in English but there are a couple of poems that are written in Spanish as Celia is Mexican-American. I of course don’t understand Spanish at all, but I do enjoy reading those Spanish poems nonetheless. You can still get the vibe and the flow of the poem, even without understanding the language completely. And I really like that!
This collection is written in three ‘acts’, the somewhere in between, the everything after and the happiness that never ends. The first collection, to me at least, was a lot more about heartbreak, while this collection is more about finding love. I really related to the first collection because I was going through a heartbreak myself. And while I am once again going through it, I still found a ton of poems I needed to tab haha. Some of these poems really made me pause and close the book for a bit, and then I had to read them again.
I love Celia’s poetry, I have saved so many of them on TikTok and Instagram and now I have two of her books. Celia is super talented and I am so happy I found her. If you’re interested in her poetry I would highly recommend looking her up on Instagram @diaryofaromantica or on TikTok @powerhouseofthecel. While I’m waiting for Celia to come out with a new poetry collection, I’ll be on the lookout for more poets so if you have any recommendations I would love to hear about them!
