WWW Wednesday #60

It’s Wednesday, so time for a new WWW Wednesday to talk about my reading progress and plans. I really love these posts and talking more about what I’m reading before the monthly wrap up. Even if my reading plans change I like thinking about what I’m going to read!

So it’s time for my next WWW Wednesday. This is a weekly meme hosted by Taking On a World of Words and you participate by simply answering three questions:

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What did you recently finish reading?

Girl Abroad – Elle Kennedy

Girl Abroad was a book I was really excited about, because I love Elle Kennedy’s books. This book started off as a 5 star read for me, but the love triangle that the main character ended up being in just made me frustrated. That’s not my favorite trope, but there were a lot of aspects I enjoyed and the mystery element was interesting.

Powerless – Lauren Roberts

Powerless is a book that has received a lot of hype and sounded right up my alley. So I was really excited to pick this one up. I’m so sad to say that I didn’t love this one as much as I had expected. The similarities to The Hunger Games was a bit too much for me and yes, it’s a fantasy romance, but I feel like the trials barely played a part in this book. That being said, I am curious to see how this series continues.

The Poppy War – R.F. Kuang

My boyfriend read and loved this book awhile ago and kept telling me how good it was and I finally sat down and read it. This is definitely a case of I should’ve read this a lot sooner. The Poppy War is intense, unpredictable, and brutal in many ways. I’m not sure my heart is ready for the next book, but I’m excited to continue.

What are you currently reading?

Older – Jennifer Hartmann

I haven’t read many age gap romances, but Older is one that interested me. At the moment I’m a little over 30% in and it’s good so far. Halley’s had such a tragic childhood that no one deserves and is attracted to an older man Reed. There’s clearly a connection, but nothing has happened yet. Older takes place in the 90s and I love little references to things that I played or had as a child like Donkey Kong and Beanie Babies.

Corrupt – Penelope Douglas

I know a lot of people are a big fan of the Devil’s Night series and I’ve been curious, so I decided to give Corrupt a try. At the moment I’m about 80% in and I’m still not sure how I’m feeling about this story. It has things I don’t like, but other aspects are keeping me intrigued. I’m still not sure if I’ll be continuing with this series.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Spirit Bares Its Teeth – Andrew Joseph White

I’ll be reading The Spirit Bares Its Teeth for the group read planned in the TBR and Beyond Facebook group. This book is a horror book and it’s not something I read often, so I’m not sure I’ll feel about it, but I’ve heard great things about this author’s previous book.

When Women Were Dragons – Kelly Barnhill

When Women Were Dragons is my in person book club pick and I’m definitely intrigued. It takes place in the 1950s where thousands of women spontaneously turned into dragons. I’m definitely curious about this story!

So that’s this week WWW Wednesday! What are you currently reading? Have you read anything amazing recently? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
