As I’ve mentioned before, one of my important reading goals of 2023 is shrinking my physical TBR. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books I still have or subjects I want to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.
This week’s topic is actually warriors, but I wasn’t feeling that this week. So I decided to go for last week’s topic: loss. Here are five books on my TBR about loss.
How to Make Friends with the Dark – Kathleen Glasglow
Our main character loses her mother and now has to deal with a life without her. I have a feeling this is going to be a very emotional story. At least if it’s anything like Girl in Pieces.
Pack Up the Moon – Kristan Higgins
Pack Up the Moon is a book I saw while watching a reading vlog. When Josh’s wife finds out she’s sick and won’t get better, she starts writing letters for him. One for every month for the first year after she passes. While he’s trying to spend as much time with her before it’s over, he’s not ready for a life after. This book is going to be heartbreaking, but I have a feeling it’s also going to be beautiful.
Always Isn’t Forever – J.C. Cervantes
Hart and Ruby have been friends and soulmates since they were children both suffer a tragedy when Hart drowns in a boating accident. Ruby doesn’t know how to move on without him and neither does Hart. His soul is transferred to the body of a local bad boy. He can’t tell Ruby, but she also doesn’t understand why he reminder her so much of Hart. Always Isn’t Forever is a book right up my alley!
Vampires, Hearts & Other Dead Things – Margie Fuston
Our main character and her estranged best friend go to New Orleans to find a vampire to save her dying father. Apparently in this book vampires have been revealed, but went back into hiding. So when her father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, there was only one thing she could think of. This is an interesting concept.
Goodbye Days – Jeff Zentner
Goodbye Days has been on my shelves for way too long! If I understand the synopsis correctly our main character’s best friends die in a car accident after he sends a text message. So I’m thinking the driver looked at his phone? I’ve heard amazing things about Jeff Zentner, so it’s time for me to read this one!
So here are five books on my TBR about loss! Have you read any of these? Or have you read any books about loss lately that were really good? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
