Yesterday we talked about our October bookhaul, but today it’s time to talk about the books we read. Did we discover any new favorite favorites? Or any new authors we need to read more by? Keep on reading our October wrap up to find out!
Candyce
My October reading started out a lot slower than expected. I was enjoying what I was reading, but then I got sick. I still managed to read 18 books (6 audiobooks, 5 paperbacks, 3 e-books, 2 ARCs, and 2 hardcovers) though, so I can’t complain.
Flawless – Elsie Silver
The Chesnut Spring series by Elsie Silver is one that I’ve seen everywhere on bookstagram and BookTok, so I have to say I was a bit scared of the hype. I didn’t have to be though, because Flawless was amazing and I couldn’t put it down. The characters, the romance, the spicy scenes, and Rhett’s family is so much fun. I’ll be reading more of this series.
You, with a View – Jessica Joyce
I remember that so many people were loving You, with a View and I’m glad I decided to pick it up. As someone who was really close to her grandmother, I could relate to our main character. The road trip was amazing, the letters we get to read, and the romance that slowly develops was just perfect. This one hit me in all the feels.
Murder in the Family – Cara Hunter
Murder in the Family was one I picked up, because of how it’s told. This book is told as a TV show about a cold case. A group of experts is brought together to see if they can solve the 20 year old cold case. The interviews, pictures, emails, etc. had me hooked to keep on reading. I can say I never would’ve guessed how it ended, but I enjoyed myself.
A Cosmic Kind of Love – Samantha Young
A Cosmic Kind of Love was a fun read and I loved the concept of how these two met. I loved seeing their relationship to slowly develop, but the miscommunication trope near the ending kind of annoyed me and had me disliking the characters a bit. All in all, I had a good time with this one.
The Way I Used to Be – Amber Smith
The Way I Used to Be isn’t an easy read. Our main character is sexually assaulted by her brother’s best friend and isn’t able to tell anyone after it happens. We see the impact this has on her and her relationships with others during all four years of high school. This is a hard book to read, but it was so well written. I’ll definitely be reading the sequel releasing this month.
Good Bad Girl – Alice Feeney
After loving Rock Paper Scissors and Daisy Darker, I had to read Good Bad Girl. It was an interesting read to say the least. Some of the twists I had guessed around halfway through, but the author still surprised me with a few things near the end. It was a wild ride!
Divine Rivals – Rebecca Ross
Divine Rivals was one that I was on the fence about reading. It’s been so hyped since it was released and when that happens I tend to be disappointed. This time that wasn’t the case at all! Divine Rivals had me hooked from the start and that ending! I’m still not okay, haha. I think it’s safe to say I’ll be reading the sequel as soon as it’s out.
Salt in the Wound – Sierra Simone
Sierra Simone’s new series, Lyonesse, started off with Salt Kiss, but there’s also a prequel to read. I’m someone who loves reading things in order, so I read Salt in the Wound first. It definitely started off interesting and I’m curious to see where it goes.
All’s Fair in Love and Christmas – Sarah Monzon
It’s never to early for Christmas books, so I listened to the audiobook of All’s Fair in Love and Christmas. This was a cute read. I have to say it wasn’t my favorite, because it wasn’t as Christmassy as I was hoping.
Ghosted – Sarah Ready
Our main character is a dating disaster and has a hard time talking to men. So when she moves into a new apartment that’s occupied by a ghost things change. She can talk to him and he thinks if he helps her, he’ll be able to move on. I love this kind of premise in books and Ghosted was heartwarming. It took some turns I wasn’t expecting, but I see myself reading the physical book in the future to see if I missed anything while listening.
Curves for Days – Laura Moher
Curves for Days was such a cute romance and I’m glad I read it. Our main character buys a house and her contractor is one she starts falling for. What I loved the most is that there was so much more to both of these characters! It had me laughing, but also hit me in all the feels.
Out of the Ashes – Kara Thomas
Kara Thomas isn’t a new to me author, but Out of the Ashes is her first adult thriller. It was an interesting emotional read, but I think I love her YA thrillers just a bit more. I didn’t know that this was based on a true story when I read it, so that was an interesting fact.
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe – Laurie Gilmore
The autumn is the perfect time to read cozy books like The Pumpkin Spice Cafe. I loved the setting, the little mystery, the small town characters, and the relationship. I could’ve done without the miscommunication near the end of the story though. I’m realizing more and more that the miscommunication trope annoys me.
Still Beating – Jennifer Hartmann
Still Beating seems to be a favorite darker romance for a lot of people and I’ve been intrigued. This is definitely a dark story and the beginning isn’t easy to read at all. I did appreciate that the author kept this realistic in the sense that things aren’t just all better when something is over. I’ll definitely be reading the other two books connected with this one.
Addicted to You – Krista & Becca Ritchie
Addicted to You is a book that released in 2013, so it’s ten years old now. I’ve been wanting to read it, but it’s a commitment with this series being 10 books long. Lily and Loren are close and have been protecting each other for years, but their addictions are starting to take a toll. Things get really messy and I’m curious to see how their story continues.
Spookily Yours – Jennifer Chipman
If you’re looking for a spicy, cozy, and witchy romance look no further. Spookily Yours is everything I look for in books like this. The characters were interesting, there was lots of humor, and things get spicy! I also really appreciated that the author didn’t make things too dramatic when she could’ve.
Pumpkin Spice and Not So Nice – Becky Monson
When I went into this book I was expecting a cozy romance and while it did give me that, I would’ve loved more time at the pumpkin patch and the development of the relationship between the two main characters. I did love the idea of her returning the fifty dollar bill with a sweet note on it and finding out more about that. It was a cute read, but not much happened.
Enchanted to Meet You – Meg Cabot
Enchanted to Meet You was a fast and fun witchy romance. I love the idea when there’s a chosen one and someone has to be trained to help save the town. That was the case in this book. My only problem was that we barely saw any of that side of the book. With it being such a big part of the story, I needed more, because it all felt a bit rushed. That being said, I did love the romance aspect in the story and the small town vibes.
Isabelle
I can’t believe I’m typing this but I’ve finished zero books this month! There are no Crescent City audiobooks available in the Netherlands and I really want to read those first. So I haven’t started a new audiobook yet. And with moving I’ve just been too tired to read that much. Hopefully that will all change once I’ve completely moved!
So that’s our October wrap up! Have you read any of these? Or what was your favorite October read? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear from you.
I had a slow month too! We were busy and had a lot of fun but that did cut into my reading time.
Lots of great books in that list. Hope November brings a bunch of wonderful books too.
