As I’ve mentioned before, one of my important reading goals of 2023 is shrinking my physical TBR. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books I still have or subjects I want to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.
This week’s topic is set in a big city. I actually have to think about this one, because no books are coming to mind. So let’s see what I ended up with!
What If It’s Us – Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera
What If It’s Us takes place in NYC and has been on my TBR for way too long (since 2018). I’ve loved books by both of these authors, so it’s time to finally read the YA contemporary they wrote together. A few of my friends loved this book, so it’s time for me to give it a go!
Blackout – Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon
Blackout takes place in NYC during a blackout that occurs during a summer heatwave. I don’t even want to think about not having electricity during the summer, haha. This is an anthology with interlinked stories. Short stories are hit or miss for me, so I’m hoping I love this one.
Chain of Gold – Cassandra Clare
Chain of Gold is the first book in The Last Hours trilogy that takes place in London. This is also the spinoff for The Infernal Devices (my favorite Shadowhunter trilogy). I don’t know what has taken me so long to pick this one up, because I was so excited. All three books are now out in the world. I really should read it in the near future.
Funny You Should Ask – Elissa Sussman
Funny You Should Ask takes place in Los Angeles and I’ve been curious about it since it released in April 2022. A journalist and a Hollywood heartthrob are the two main characters. This should be interesting!
Hot Dutch Daydream – Kristy Boyce
Hot Dutch Daydream takes place in Amsterdam. Living in the same country as this book has me curious to see how the author portrays everything. If I remember correctly, we met Sage is this author’s previous book Hot British Boyfriend and I actually liked her more than the main character of that book, haha.
This was a lot harder than I expected it to be! I was able to find five books that are set in a big city! Have you read any of these? Or do you have any books on your TBR set in a big city? Let me know in the comments! I clearly need the recommendations, haha.
