Review| Maggie Moves On – Lucy Score

Maggie Moves On was my last book of 2022, so it seemed fitting to make this my first review of 2023. Lucy Score is an author I’ve been wanting to read something by for quite some time and now I definitely need to work on her backlist. If you want to know more about Maggie Moves On and my thoughts, keep on reading!

Can these opposites turn up the heat… without burning down the house?

House-flipping sensation and YouTube star Maggie Nichols can’t wait to dig into her next challenge. Arriving in tiny Kinship, Idaho, with only a cot and a coffeemaker, Maggie is prepared to restore a crumbling Victorian mansion in four months or less. She has her to-do lists, her blueprints, and her team. What she doesn’t have is time for sexy, laid-back landscaper Silas Wright.

The man takes flirtation to a whole new level. And he does it shirtless…sometimes pants-less. He and his service school-dropout dog are impressively persistent. But she’s not interested in putting down roots. Not when fans tune in to watch her travel the country turning dilapidated houses into dream homes. A short-term fling on the other hand could fit nicely into her calendar. After all, Maggie remembers what fun is like. Vaguely.

As their summer gets downright steamy, Silas manages to demolish the emotional walls she’s spent years building, sending Maggie into a panic. He’s the wrench in her carefully constructed plans. With the end of the project looming, she has a decision to make. But how can she stay when her entire career is built on moving on?

Review

Maggie isn’t one to stay in once place and flips houses for her popular YouTube channel. She’s almost at 1 million followers and I have to say that’s pretty impressive. I love watching shows like that, so the whole renovating aspect of this story was a lot of fun to read about.

At the start of this book she’s set to get this house done and move on to the next one. Then enter Silas, the landscaper, and things make change. I’m not normally a fan of instalove, but I love how sure Silas was of the fact he was going to end up with Maggie. She was his dream girl. Their banter was so much fun and I loved them getting to know each other. We don’t get the grumpy/sunshine trope with the female lead at the grump very often. I loved how Silas really broke down her walls and we got to know more about how Maggie built them up in the first place. Add Silas’ dog, Kevin, and that completely sealed the deal.

Something I also love is an amazing cast of side character and Maggie Moves On didn’t let me down with that aspect either. Dean was an amazing character and I loved how important he was to Maggie. Silas’ family had me smiling and it warmed my heart. I also love how Lucy Score added a dash of mystery when she finds something in the old house she’s renovating.

All in all, Maggie Moves on was such a heartwarming book that had me laughing out loud. I definitely should’ve read something by this author a lot sooner. Thankfully I have a pretty big backlist I can get through.

Maggie Moves On was a great book to end the year with. It really had everything I was looking for in a book like this! Do you like home renovating shows? They’re definitely fun to watch. I’ll be reading more by this author this year.
