We wanted to do another bookish meme on Wednesday and after doing Can’t Wait Wednesday a few times we decided that would be a fun one to bring around more often! About twice a month you’ll see this meme on our blog.
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breakingthe Spine.
The Last Magician meets The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy in this thrilling and atmospheric historical fantasy following a young woman who discovers she has magical powers and is thrust into a battle between witches and wizards.
In 1911 New York City, seventeen-year-old Frances Hallowell spends her days as a seamstress, mourning the mysterious death of her brother months prior. Everything changes when she’s attacked and a man ends up dead at her feet—her scissors in his neck, and she can’t explain how they got there.
Before she can be condemned as a murderess, two cape-wearing nurses arrive to inform her she is deathly ill and ordered to report to Haxahaven Sanitarium. But Frances finds Haxahaven isn’t a sanitarium at all: it’s a school for witches. Within Haxahaven’s glittering walls, Frances finds the sisterhood she craves, but the headmistress warns Frances that magic is dangerous. Frances has no interest in the small, safe magic of her school, and is instead enchanted by Finn, a boy with magic himself who appears in her dreams and tells her he can teach her all she’s been craving to learn, lessons that may bring her closer to discovering what truly happened to her brother.
Frances’s newfound power attracts the attention of the leader of an ancient order who yearns for magical control of Manhattan. And who will stop at nothing to have Frances by his side. Frances must ultimately choose what matters more, justice for her murdered brother and her growing feelings for Finn, or the safety of her city and fellow witches. What price would she pay for power, and what if the truth is more terrible than she ever imagined?
The Witch Haven releases at the end of August and has been on my radar for awhile, so I was really excited when I received an email from the publisher to ask if I wanted to read and review! How could I say no to that?!? This book sounds like something I’ll love.
I’m a big fan of books with witches, so it caught my attention right away. Add the fact that our main character goes to a school for witches (school settings are my favorite) and I was sold. I have a feeling this is going to be an intense adventure, but I can’t wait to dive in. This seems to be a standalone, so hopefully the author wraps everything up in this book.
Have you heard of The Witch Haven? Is it something you plan on reading? I’ll be posting my review closer to the release date. Also, I love anything witches. Do you have any good recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
I have not heard of the Witch Haven, but it’s not a genre I usually read. But, the cover is gorgeous! 🙂
I love witchy stories in a school setting! This one is definitely going on the TBR and I am looking forward to your review.
This sounds sooooo good! I love witch themed novels too. I hope you enjoy The Witch Haven. I am adding it to my wish list.
