Show Sunday | First Look: Bridgerton

On Christmas Day the newest Netflix show, Bridgerton was released. You probably heard about it already since it’s an adaptation of the Julia Quinn book series Bridgerton. Yesterday I watched the first couple of episodes and today I want to share my first impression. Let’s dive in!

Wealth, lust, and betrayal set in the backdrop of Regency era England, seen through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family.

Or better said, Gossip Girl in Regency era England! This little synopsis doesn’t mention it, but you can see it in the trailer, Lady Whistledown writes a gossip column type thing that goes around town and everyone that’s anyone is mentioned in it!

The trailer looked really good and I love every single ting Shonda Rhimes is involved in so you can imagine my excitement. I have been looking forward to this show since the moment it was announced. At first I planned on reading the books first, or at least the first book, The Duke and I. But I’ve seen some reviews that pointed out problematic parts of the books and I’m not sure I still want to read them. If I really crave more of these characters after the show I might still pick them up, especially if we won’t get more seasons since I would love to see the romances of the other Bridgerton siblings.

When I’m writing this I watched the first two episodes and I can’t wait to continue! There are 8 episodes in this first season and they are about an hour long each. The story centres around Daphne Bridgerton and Simon, the Duke of Hastings. Simon is played by the gorgeous Rege-Jean Page. I loved him in Shonda’s For the People (hate that it got cancelled!) and his chemistry with Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne is incredibly. After the first episode I was super invested in them and I can’t wait for them to get together!

We also get a look at some of the other Bridgerton siblings and especially Eloise has captured my heart. She was not born in the right era and I can’t wait to see more of her story. I also love Penelope Featherington and her friendship with Eloise is so precious. The show has great characters but it also has amazing scenery. I love how everything looks! The costumes are gorgeous and the music is perfect. These first two episodes did an amazing job and totally hooked. I want to try and pace myself but it won’t be long before I watched all the episodes ;). Highly recommend!

  1. I got to the end of episode 3 last night before having to capitulate to sleep! I’m loving it so far but I keep hearing about the problematic elements but no one says what they are! I have no idea but I’m refusing to google it as I don’t want preconceived notions to ruin the rest of the show. (I’ll let the problematic stuff do that if it happens…)

Fingers crossed the rest of the show is as charming as the beginning!
