Mini Review | Pumpkinheads – Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks

Januari 2020 I bought Pumpkinheads, it was reasonably priced and I wanted to read it since it was released. Of course I had to wait until October before was actually allowed to read it haha. And recently it was finally time for me to pick it up! So today I want to give my quick thoughts about this book. Let’s jump in!

Mini Review | Pumpkinheads – Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.
Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?

Pumpkinheads was released in august 2019 and you saw it everywhere in the following months. Candyce already read and reviewed it last October and now its finally my time haha. This is the perfect fall graphic novel and I’m happy I saved it for this time of year.

…I’m your friend. And friends don’t let friends live small lives.

Deja & Josiah work together at the pumpkin patch every year and are best friends. Or at least they are that time of year. This is their last year together before they go off to college and they want to make the most of it.

I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch in my life, as we don’t have them here, but now I really want to! To be honest, I always thought there would only be pumpkins so I didn’t really get the appeal. But after reading this graphic novel they sound like delightful places! I think I would love going to one. If we can ever travel again I will have to go to the States so I can experience a proper pumpkin patch.

People all sort of look the same to me until I talk to them. That’s when they start to get interesting. That’s when they start to shimmer.

I enjoyed the art work in this GN. It was the best I’ve ever seen but I liked the style of the art. I also really appreciated the fact that the characters looked like real people. They weren’t all unrealistically beautiful and that made them great to look at.  The characters were also pretty interesting, I especially liked Deja. It’s a pretty short story but the characters were developed well enough in my opinion.

The story was very cute! Like I said, it was pretty short so there isn’t that much to it. But it was simply a cute story about seasonal best friends. I loved seeing all the different parts of the patch. There were some fun moments but also some deep and meaningful moments I really liked.

All in all this was a fun and fast fall read. I really liked it and would highly recommend it! If you can, get it before fall is over. Or save it for next year like I did haha.
