It’s been quite some time since I read One of Us is Lying, but I remember really enjoying that book (even though I was a bit disappointed with how it all ended). Earlier this year the sequel, One of Us is Next, released and I finally sat down to read it. Keep on reading to find out what I thought about this book!
The highly anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestselling thriller everyone is talking about, One of Us Is Lying! There’s a new mystery to solve at Bayview High, and there’s a whole new set of rules.
Come on, Bayview, you know you’ve missed this.
A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one’s been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.
Until now.
This time it’s not an app, though—it’s a game.
Truth or Dare.
Phoebe’s the first target. If you choose not to play, it’s a truth. And hers is dark.
Then comes Maeve and she should know better—always choose the dare.
But by the time Knox is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it’s that they can’t count on the police for help. Or protection.
Simon’s gone, but someone’s determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High alive. And this time, there’s a whole new set of rules.
Review
After being a bit disappointed with the end of One of Us is Lying, I have to admit I was a bit afraid to pick this one up. But I’m glad I did. We return a year after all of the events in the first book. It’s definitely clear that everything that happened has still left an impact on the students in school and even for the main characters in the first book.
One of Us is Next is told from three POVs: Knox, Maeve and Phoebe. I liked switching between these three and it definitely kept the tension high. Each character is trying to move on and we learn about how the characters from the first book are doing. The way the author wrote this book kept me reading and I needed to know more about these characters. I definitely got invested and needed to see how all would play out.
This time around someone is starting a Truth or Dare game. If you don’t pick anything, a secret is announced to the whole school anyways. These secrets definitely aren’t the innocent kind and make a few of our characters feel really bad. I loved trying to solve the puzzle with our main characters who were fed up with the game. Especially when someone ends up dying. Definitely not the person I was expecting either. I have to say that near the end I started figuring out who may be behind everything, but the last few sentences of this book definitely left me shocked!
I don’t want to say too much about this book, because when it comes to mysteries it’s best to just experience everything on your own. I definitely recommend this one!
I love when you pick up a book and just want to keep on reading. One of Us is Next was an enjoyable read. Especially for this time of year! I will have to read Two Can Keep a Secret soon. If you’ve read any of these books, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
What a cozy picture makes me want to curl up with a good book
I actually enjoyed ONE OF US IS LYING, but still haven’t read this one yet – lol
