Today is our official blog birthday!! And what better post than a Meet the Book Blogger Tag? We thought it would be fun to share some facts about ourselves to celebrate the fact we’ve been writing blogposts for three years. Can you believe we’re still not done with each other? Lauren from Lala’s Book Reviews created this Meet the Book Blogger Tag so go ahead and take a look at her blog as well.
Candyce – I’m Candyce, a 32 year old book lover! I’ve always loved reading, but a few years ago it became a huge part of my life and I’ve made amazing friends through books. Isabelle being one of those! I’m definitely an introvert, but love spending time with friends, game nights, reading and so much more!
Isabelle – I’m Isabelle, a 30 year old book loving, horse riding, soon to be teacher. Candyce and I met through a readalong and we became fast friends. I’m an introvert but love spending time with friends, both online and offline. And of course you can find me at the stables every day.
Something most everyone wants to know… do you have any pets?
Candyce – Yes, I have two 3 year old cats, Shadow & Shasta. They’re sisters and we got them when they were around 6 weeks old. They can be annoying at times, but I wouldn’t trade these furry ones for anything in the world.
Isabelle – I wouldn’t call it a pet perse, but I do own a horse. He’s been with me for 16 years now and he’s enjoying his pension. The horse I do competitions with is not my own horse, although it does feel that way sometimes!
What is your favorite thing to drink?
Candyce – I love tea. I could drink that anytime really. In the winter I’m also a big fan of cocoa. I’m someone who is always cold in the Fall and Winter, so I’m a lover of warm drinks. Even if I don’t like coffee.
Isabelle – I drink tea all day long so that’s definitely one of my favourite drinks. Whenever I can I also get the rose flavoured Fentimans. Best drink ever! And since its pumpkin spice season, you can bet I’ll be getting a pumpkin spice latte as soon as possible 😉
What is your favorite season?
Candyce – For me it’s Autumn I think. I love how everything gets cozy and colorful. The days get shorter. Spring is a season I love as well, but having allergies it isn’t always my friend.
Isabelle – It’s a tossup between Autumn and Spring. After a hot summer I’m so happy it’s autumn again and everything starts to cool off a bit. But after a dark winter I’m also very happy it’s spring and it gets lighter and warmer outside haha.
Do you have any special talents?
Candyce – I remember the stupidest things, but other than that nope, haha.
Isabelle – Hahahaha, nope. No special talents here!
When and why did you start your blog?
We started our blog exactly three years ago! A couple of our friends had blogs and we always thought it would be fun to have one as well. But we didn’t want to do it by ourselves as we didn’t think we’d be able to keep going so we wanted to do it together. And the rest is history ;).
What is something that you wish you knew about blogging when you first started?
Candyce – It takes so much more time than you realize. A lot of the time I think oh, I’ll get that done in no time. That’s not the case and it’s a few hours later before I’m done with what I wanted to do.
Isabelle – How much time it costs!! I’d probably still do it, but I don’t think non-bloggers have any idea how much time we put into every post, every picture, every tiny change you might not even notice.
What has been the hardest part about blogging?
Candyce – I think working ahead is really hard. Like I said while answering the previous questions, it takes more time than you realize. I sit down and think I’m going to blog for the whole entire week and end up with two or three posts done. Also, how tempting it is to request books on Netgalley. It can be so tempting.
Also, I think keeping up in the community. There are so many blogs, bookstagrams and other social media to be on as a blogger. It definitely can take away from reading time. It’s an amazing community, but it can be overwhelming at times.
Isabelle – Planning ahead, haha. I’m so bad at planning and I want to write posts ahead of time but I hardly ever manage to do so, haha. Since we’re Dutch is also hard to get ARC’s, physical copies are unavailable and even eARC’s can be difficult. Luckily we have been getting some great ones though!
What has been the most rewarding part of blogging?
Candyce – Creating our own part of the bookish world. I love what we’ve created and how far we’ve gotten. We started this just for the two of us, but neither of us expected people to actually come read what we were publishing. Also, it’s really great sharing this together and that we keep going at it. When we started this journey we didn’t know how long we would keep this up. I’m proud of where we are and can’t wait to see what’s to come!
Isabelle – Having this little part of the internet that’s all our own. When we changed a lot in the looks of the blog for this birthday I was just so happy with it. I’m super proud of where we are, what we accomplished and the fact that we still keep up with it. So I guess it great seeing we’re able to stick with it and each other, even after three years!
Do you write your posts a head of time or write them the day of posting?
Candyce – I normally try and blog as much as possible on my days off. I have Tuesday, Thursday and the weekend off right now, but I never get as much done as I want to. I love writing ahead of time though, because it’s so much easier. I also get more motivated when I have a lot planned.
Isabelle – Haha, well… I really want to write ahead of time. Especially since I’m so busy now. But a lot of times I’m writing the evening before. And for me, that’s not good creativity wise. I find it a lot easier to come up with topics when I’m writing ahead of time, I always have ton of ideas until I have to write a post RIGHT NOW because it goes live tomorrow morning, haha.
Who are your top 5 favorite authors?
Candyce – How am I supposed to choose just five?!? Okay, Victoria Schwab, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarah J Maas and Rebecca Yarros. I could tell you about tons of authors though. There are so many amazing ones!
Isabelle – Only five?! That’s so difficult haha. I’ll go with Sarah J. Maas, Victoria Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Jennifer Lynn Barnes and Karin Slaughter. There are a ton more I would say are favorites but these are on the top of the list.
What genre do you read the most?
Candyce – Contemporary is my most read genre, followed by fantasy! I’m a big fan of the stories that leave me smiling, so romance and fluffy contemporary are books I’m always up for.
Isabelle – That has to be fantasy! Although lately I’ve also read quite some contemporary books. I know, crazy right! With the seasons changing, I’ll probably get back to fantasy though haha.
What genre surprised you by how much you love it?
Candyce – I’ve been trying to step out of my comfort zone and read other genres. I was really surprised by a few horror books and even historical fiction. I want to try more of both!
Isabelle – I guess I’ll have to say contemporary. Especially this year I have been reading quite a lot of contemporary books and I’m really enjoying them. It might have something to do with how busy I am, sometimes it’s nice to unwind with an ‘easy’ book instead of a high stakes fantasy story.
Which popular book didn’t live up to the hype for you?
Candyce – I’ve been pretty lucky with hyped books, but there have been a few that just didn’t work for me. The most recent one being The Court of Miracles. I loved the concept, but the book just didn’t work for me. I was confused!
Isabelle – The one that comes to mind right away is Caraval. Everyone was hyping it so much and after an early release in the Netherlands some friends of ours convinced me it was the best book ever. Well, it wasn’t haha. At least not for me, and I still haven’t read the rest of the series.
Who are some popular authors you haven’t read?
Candyce – Oh, I need to think about this one. Sebastien de Castell is a popular author I haven’t read anything from yet. I own the whole Spellslinger series (I couldn’t resist the pretty books), but haven’t read a page yet. I’ve heard great things, so that needs to change soon.
Isabelle – A really popular author I haven’t read yet is Neal Shusterman. I do own Scythe and I really want to read it. My expectations are pretty high so I hope the book will live up to them!
What upcoming release are you excited to read?
Isabelle – So many!! Haha. Hollowpox for sure. But also The Devil and the Dark Water and In a Holidaze apart from the books I already have eARC’s for.
Do you listen to music while reading?
Candyce –I almost always have music on when reading. Except when I read in bed at night. I don’t think my boyfriend would appreciate that when trying to sleep, haha. Well, we do have a few music channels on when in bed and reading. I have to say if I’m really into my book I don’t hear the music anymore, haha.
Isabelle – I usually do. Whatever I’m doing, I probably will have music on haha. I don’t like the silence haha. While I’m typing this, I’m also listening to music. When reading I do usually put on a Spotify playlist with songs I don’t know that well, otherwise I’ll be singing along haha.
Where else can we find you online?
Candyce – Our social media can be found on the blog. I do have my own Goodreads though. If you want to see what I’m reading.
Isabelle – All our blog social media is linked everywhere. My personal Goodreads is also linked, and that’s the Goodreads I use, not the blog one. I also have my personal Instagram, but it’s mostly social and horse pictures haha.
