Down the TBR Hole #31

Seeing how I keep adding new books to my Goodreads TBR, I decided to did this just a little more often than I have before. It’s only been two weeks since I did my last post, but with the number of books still on that list, it’s never too soon to do this again. I’m trying to make this a regular post!

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 587 (my last post ended at 563, a good thing I’m doing this more regularly, this is the second time it’s increased so much in a short period of time, haha…)

All the Ever Afters: The Untold Story of Cinderella’s Stepmother – Danielle Teller

I’m surprised I forgot about this one! I love the idea of getting stories from characters in fairy tales that you don’t like. Villains can be really interesting characters. I love the cover and am still really curious. I don’t own this book yet, but it’s one to put on a wish list!

State of Sorrow – Melinda Salisbury

To start off, I love this cover! It’s stunning. That being said, I don’t really remember what the story is about, haha. After reading the synopsis again, I’m still interested. Another one I need to make sure I own soon.

An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason – Virginia Boecker

I’ve been wanting to read more historical fiction and saw this one when it was promoted near its release. This was almost two years ago. I actually forgot about it until Amazon had a book sale last year. I bought it for only a few euros. An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason sounds like a perfect book for this Fall!

The Surface Breaks – Louise O’Neill

It pains me to say that I’m removing this one from my want to read list. The cover is gorgeous, but a few of my friends were really disappointed in The Surface Breaks. Seeing how they like the same things I do, I think I’ll let this one go!

Two Dark Reigns – Kendare Blake

This is another case of I’ve already read this book, but had a different edition saved on my want to read list. Three Dark Crowns is a series I really love. Writing this also reminds me I really need to read the final book!

Dear Heartbreak: YA Authors and Teens on the Dark Side of Love – Heather Demetrios

When I see that an anthology will published, I’m always a bit careful. Short stories can be a big hit or miss for me. Dear Heartbreak sounded like one I would like. I actually forgot about it, but seeing some of my Goodreads friends’ reviews, I’m not going to give this one a go. They weren’t very positive.

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy – Mackenzi Lee

As I’ve said before, when I haven’t read the first book of a series yet, I don’t keep the sequels on my want to read list. I’ll eventually get to The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, because it’s on my bookshelf, haha.

Midnight Sun – Trish Cook

I actually asked for this book, because I read that there was going to be a movie. At the moment I’m typing this, I haven’t seen the movie or read the book. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be allergic to the sun. I’m still really curious about Midnight Sun.

Our Dark Stars – Audrey Grey

Even though I’m not a fan of people on covers, I love this one because of the colors. It’s on my shelf and I’ve heard that it’s perfect for fans of The Lunar Chronicles. I will be reading this soon (I hope)!

Mirage – Somaiya Daud

I actually forgot about this one, but seeing it again has me curious! It seems like something I’ll love and the cover is beautiful! Readers I know were positive, so I think it’ll be something I enjoy!

Removal Percentage: 40%
Current “to-read” shelf: 583

So that’s it for this week… It didn’t go as well as I wished it would, haha. I’m slowly getting to 600 on my “want-to-read” shelf! Oops!

  1. You did great at removing these, it’s always so hard to choose isn’t it? I can’t wait for your next Down the TBR Hole!

    1. It really is! And every time I am able to get rid of some, I add so many more, haha.
