Last Thursday I decided to start watching a new Netflix tv show. That same evening I finished Never Have I Ever haha. And today I wanted to talk to you all about this new show! You might’ve guessed that I really enjoyed it but let’s dive in.
The complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl, inspired by Mindy Kaling’s own childhood.
Never Have I Ever has 10 episodes of 30 minutes each. So in 5 hours you can watch the whole first season. Which is exactly what I did haha.
I either didn’t watch the trailer (closely) or the trailer doesn’t completely convey what this series is about. The first episode really surprised me and the whole vibe of the show was different than I was expecting. Which was actually a good thing! Yes this is a fun teen drama show, but its also a lot more. And I did think it brought some new things to the genre.
We follow Devi and her friends as the new school year begins. Devi decides this year needs to be different and wants boyfriends for her and her 2 best friends. Slowly we get some insight in her recent past and why she might want to change things up. I loved how this gave a deeper meaning to everything Devi did.
I laughed out loud so many times while watching this show. Devi is a hilarious character to follow. She is so far from perfect but that is exactly why I love her. There were quite some moments in this first season where I wanted to yell at her, girl what are you doing?! But ultimately I think she deserves to be happy.
And I didn’t just laugh, like I said, there is more going on in this show than just the regular teen drama. The last episode actually made me cry pretty hard haha. In general I have a lot of feelings about this show. And also at least 3 ships haha. I truly hope we get a second season because I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Especially after that last scene 😉 And to be honest, I’m not even sure what I want to happen next.
