Royal Update #17

We thought it was time for a fun new post every week. In the Royal Update one of us updates you about our personal life, bookish news, what we’re reading, watching and listening to and anything else that might apply to this post. We thought it would be fun to share a bit more about our personal lives and hope you think so too!

Life is pretty much the same day in day out these days haha. I go to the horses every morning, just doing the daily tasks there. It’s so nice to be able to go outside every day. Last week I also did a trail ride with one of the horses for the first time. She is such a scaredy cat so I was happy it went well! It was sunny weather and I enjoyed it so much.

I love doing jigsaw puzzles and this quarantine is the perfect time to do some! Unfortunately I have only done one yet. But I do plan on starting a difficult one this week. I have a couple where you don’t get the actual picture of the jigsaw but the picture in a different time or from a different perspective for example. These are so difficult but also a ton of fun! I finished my first one in December and felt so accomplished afterwards haha.

Lastly I’ve been trying to study! I have to admit my first assignments soon and have a lot to do before then. For one assignment I have to read 7 children books so that isn’t a chore at all ;). I work together with 3 other students and that helps a lot! It’s a shame we aren’t able to go to our internships at the moment, I’m already misses those kids, but it is nice to focus on the theory for a bit. And of course I’m reading for fun and blogging a lot!

Netgalley had some wonderful sounding books in the ‘Read Now’ section last week so of course I had to get them haha. From now on I really have to work on my Netgalley TBR though ;).

Where Dreams Descend – Janella Angeles

Phantom of the Opera meets Moulin Rouge. Do you even need to know anything else? I love both so I can’t wait to see them come together in a fantasy world.

More Than Maybe – Erin Hahn

This sounds like a really cute YA contemporary. It has a music blog, a podcast, possibly interesting side characters and I’m pretty sure I already know how it ends haha. I hope it’s as cute as I think it will be!

The Mall – Megan McCafferty

I don’t think I normally would’ve picked up this book if I’m being honest. But the whole 90’s vibe really speaks to me and I can’t wait to experience that. This might work better as a movie but we’ll see ;). I hope the story is something I’ll enjoy!

Lobizona – Romina Garber

This one I’m super excited for!! It starts off with undocumented immigrants from Argentina. But soon the main character finds out about her true Argentinian heritage, where the seventh daughter is a bruja and the seventh son a lobizon (werewolf). I think this fantasy setting will be such an interesting way to look at undocumented immigrants! Let’s hope it’s as good as it sounds.

Scribd is giving out free trials and I’ve used this opportunity to read a ton of graphic novels! I’ve been reading Goldie Vance and Giant Days and I’ve read at least 10 volumes already. Scribd is starting to limit me but it seems like I can still read individual issues so I’ll see how far I’ll come. I also listened to Vengeful (finally!) and the Harry Potter series. It’s such a comfort read in times like these and I’m not even ashamed haha.

I’m still reading Elantris but should finish it very soon. Candyce and I are also in the middle of our buddy read of House of Earth and Blood. With the O.W.L.s starting soon, I plan on picking up some books of my TBR. I’m very excited about all the books on that list but will probably start with The Test and The Merciful Crow.

I’ve finally been able to contain myself! It’s so nice to browse the online shops right now, but with hardly any income I’m trying to be smart haha. Let’s see how long I can keep this up, especially with that ADSOM special edition Illumicrate that was just announced!

While this is the perfect time to bingewatch some shows, I’ve hardly watched anything! I did start watching Diary of a Future President, watched a couple episodes of The Ranch and Dare Me. A week ago I did watch some of my regular shows like Prodigal Son, Legacies, Stumptown, Katy Keene, Roswell, 9-1-1 and Brooklyn Nine Nine. At the moment I’m already behind at least one episode on almost everything I watch but I hope to catch up in the coming weeks.

I love country music and this is my go-to playlist on Spotify whenever I’m in the mood for some country. This music really calms me down and that was all I needed these past weeks.

  1. You put me to shame, I’m working for home, don’t have to commute and find myself with less time that I did before all this!
However after reading this I think I’m going to get a jigsaw for the wife and I to complete on an evening. 🙂

    1. Haha, don’t feel bad! I’m definitely not doing all the things I should be doing haha. And I’m hardly working at the moment as the place I work at got shut down during the lockdown. Hope you do pick up a jigsaw, love them so much!
