Bookish Item | Book Beginnings on Friday: House of Earth and Blood – Sarah J. Maas

It’s time for another Book Beginnings on Friday! This meme was created by Rose City Reader. The idea is to post the first sentence or so of the book you’re currently reading. After that you talk about your initial thoughts about the sentence, book or anything to do with that. I don’t know how often we will do this, but it seems like fun from time to time. Today’s book is House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.
Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.
As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.
With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom—and the power of love.

There was a wolf at the gallery door.
Which meant it must be Thursday, which meant Bryce had to be really gods-damned tired if she relied on Danika’s comings and goings to figure out what day it was.

House of Earth and Blood is finally here!! I have been looking forward to this book for so long. Sarah J Maas is a favorite writer of mine and I especially adored her Throne of Glass series. This new series is set in a more contemporary magical world and I think that will be very interesting. I haven’t read that many book in a setting like that and I can’t wait to start with this one.

The first sentence excites me right away. Are there werewolves in this world? I hope so! Just these two sentences already make me want to continue reading this one. I have quite high hopes and I truly hope this story will live up to my expectations. The book has 800 pages so it’s pretty big. I honestly don’t know that much about it yet and I want to go in pretty blind. Fingers crossed this will be my favorite yet.

Do you plan on reading House of Earth and Blood? Or did you already start it? Come talk to me in the comments. I’m hoping for a new Maas-craze 😉
