Last October I got to read the first book in the Tin Gypsy series, Gypsy KingGypsy King. This book really surprised me and I loved it for that! The sequel, Riven Knight, released this week and today I want to tell you what I thought about the next book in this series.
A big thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC to read and review!
Genevieve Daylee didn’t expect to be standing in front of a judge on her twenty-seventh birthday. But ever since her life became entangled with a former motorcycle gang, she’s learned not to expect anything but trouble.
Her mother, a woman she once admired and adored, is gone, leaving behind a trail of secrets and lies. She’s living in a tiny apartment above a garage owned by her brother, a man who loathes her very existence. And the father she met beside her mother’s grave is as much of a stranger as Isaiah Reynolds, the broken man with soulless eyes standing beside her in front of the judge.
Isaiah is her protector from the murderer at large in Clifton Forge. Though he’s more like a riven knight in dented armor than a prince on a white stallion. She knows next to nothing about him, other than he works as a mechanic. As of tonight, he’ll be sharing her bathroom.
And, according to the judge, Isaiah is now her husband.

Review
“The last woman I’d kissed was the woman I’d killed. Not exactly the thought a groom wants flashing through his mind as he’s standing across from his bride.”
Even though Riven Knight is about two different characters, it basically picks up where Tin Gypsy left off. Our group of characters is still looking for a new normal after everything happened. Also, they’re still anxiously awaiting how certain events will play out! I know this sounds really vague, but I can’t say too much without spoiling the first book or even parts of this one.
“Maybe, despite the masks of our normal lives, there was a streak of evil in us all.”
I’m a big fan of books with fake relationships and this one was done so well! Devney Perry really made me care for Isaiah and Genevieve. They both had their world turned upside down, especially Genevieve, but that’s not an easy task. Their love story is definitely a slow burn romance. Even though that was frustrating at times, I completely get why the author chose this path. Both of them have a lot of things to deal with between recent events, but also things in their past. It was amazing to see them slowly trust each other and their feelings.
“Isaiah looked into the mirror and saw everlasting broken pieces, but maybe my broken pieces would fit with his. Together, maybe we’d make a whole.”
On top of this love story, we see all of the characters from Tin Gypsy. A lot is still going on in the club and things get dangerous. The suspense in this book kept me on the edge of my seat and I really had no clue how it would all play out. Devney Perry definitely build this up slowly and had me anxiously awaiting how all would play out. Even though I had no clue how it would end, part of how things played out didn’t make sense to me. Not that I need big signs to know how things will play out, but there was nothing that really lead me to this ending. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it!
All in all, this series has really gotten a special place in my heart and I can’t wait for Stone Princess. I’m definitely not done with all of these amazing characters.
I really enjoyed Riven Knight and I’m so excited for the release of Stone Princess in a few months! Sometimes I really enjoy books that keep me on the edge of my seat, because I just don’t know what’s going to happen. What was the last book that did that to you? Let me know in the comments!
It sounds like the narrative and relationships really draw in the reader. Great review!
Thank you!
