Another month is over and it’s already August! That still sounds insane to us. Today is the first of the month and that means it’s time to take a look at our July bookhaul. Did we add any new book to our shelves? Keep on reading to find out!

In July I added 20 books to my shelves. There were quite a few amazing books releasing this month and I had quite a lot of books on my wishlist go lower in the price I saw them for. My August bookhaul won’t be as exciting, because I spent a lot of money on my wedding dress in July. It was a very exciting purchase though, so it’ll give me the chance to read more books off of my shelves that are already there, haha.

The Ascended – Bree Grenwich & Parker Lennox

I read Riftborne by this author duo. It wasn’t my favorite book, but I had a great time and I’ve heard that that series gets better and that The Ascended is even more amazing. People say you need to read Duskbound before this one, so I have it pre-ordered! This book is chunky, but it is floppy!

Cytonic – Brandon Sanderson

My series slayers reading group has been tackling the Skyward series the last few months and we’ve now reached the third book. I already owned the first two, so I grabbed this one to read before our chat to discuss Cytonic. I’m having a great time.

For the Fans – Nyla K.

For the Fans is a book that self-published in 2023 that I’ve heard great things about. I recently saw this published edition with pretty sprayed edges. It was on sale, so I had to grab it! This book is normally pretty expensive, so I couldn’t pass up the deal. I’ll be surprised if I don’t enjoy this story.

The Tapestry of Fate – Shannon Chakraborty

Another book that had a great deal! The Tapestry of Fate is the sequel to The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi. One thing that surprises me about this one is that for a hardcover it’s floppy. It’s easy to hold and that doesn’t happen often.

Into the Fading Twilight – Catherine Cowles

After loving Across the Vanishing Sky, I had to preoreder the sequel. Into the Fading Twilight is also very pretty. I’ll be adding this whole series to my shelves as they release.

Extracurricular – Rachel Lynn Solomon

So far I’ve enjoyed all of the romances I’ve read by Rachel Lynn Solomon and Extracurricular sounds right up my alley. A professor/student romance isn’t something I read many of, but I have a feeling Rachel will do a great job with this trope. Also, this one has pretty sprayed edges.

West of Forever – Corinne Michaels

I’ve read a few books by this author and some have been hit or miss, but West of Forever really caught my eye. Cowboy romances are starting to be something I want to dive into more again, so I picked up this pretty edition. A friend of mine loved this book, so I’m expecting to as well.

Dust Storm, Downpour, & Fire Line – Maggie Gates

Like I just said I’m back in my cowboy romance era and The Griffith Brothers series caught my eye recently. I’ve heard of this author before, but I haven’t read any thing by Maggie yet. All three of these books were on sale, so why not try them now?

In Stormy Weather – Chelsea Curto

Chelsea Curto wrote one of my favorite sports romances (I need to continue the series) and I loved her dark romance. So now it’s time to read In Stormy Weather and see what she does with rival storm chasing meteorologists during hurricane season. This is one of my most anticipated releases.

Duskbound – Bree Grenwich & Parker Lennox

Like I already said when talking about The Ascended, I enjoyed Riftborne but it didn’t blow me away. I have heard that Duskbound gets really good, so of course I’m going to give it a try. The third book releases next year, so this will definitely help me decide if I complete the trilogy.

Ruinous Ends – I.V. Marie

Immortal Consequences was a book I really enjoyed. I mean most of the time the characters we read about aren’t dead. That’s the case in this series. The ending of that book has had me wanting Ruinous Ends. A friend and I are going to start a buddy read. I have a feeling this one is going to hit in all the feels.

Yes, Chef – Grace Reilly

I can’t remember the last time I read a romance when one of the main characters was a chef and that’s something I do know I enjoy. Trying to bring a restaurant can be stressful, so I have a feeling things can get complicated.

Hollow – Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

This duo wrote Zodiac Academy (that I still need to finish…) and I love this edition. The sprayed edges are very pretty. I got this book because just like The Tapestry of Fate, I got a notification it was on sale (I got it for like 50% off). I know I love their writing and the sequel is coming in November. Hollow seems like the perfect book to read on a rainy autumn day.

Just for the Plot – Meghan Quinn

One of my favorite authors has a new book and the characters are holding books on the cover! That’s just so cute. I’ll read anything Meghan Quinn writes.

The Winged Game – Sophie Kim

All I know is that I someone say that The Winged Game is basically a fantasy sports romance. That sounds like something right up my alley. The Fairyloot edition of this book is stunning.

The Lure of Wolves and Whispers – Amanda Connolly

The green they used on this special edition is truly stunning! Our main character has to buy dangerous magic to save her sister? I’m intrigued! This is also described for fans of Powerless and Throne of Glass. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Powerless, but Throne of Glass is one of my favorite series.

The River She Became – Emily Varga

All of these fantasy books are making me very excited that autumn is getting closer and closer. I’m done with the summer and the heat, haha. I love the idea that our main character has to hunt an ancient fae object to restore magic in her world. We all know this won’t be easy.

Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter – Heather Fawcett

After loving Heather Fawcett’s Emily Wilde’s series, I knew I had to read a book by her about a cat shelter. This Illumicrate edition is stunning and I’m hoping that I end up loving this book.

I finally got a physical book this month! Although it’s maybe not what you expect haha. Other than that I didn’t get any new books, but I might spoil myself before I’m leaving for vacation.

The Killer Isn’t Alice – Iris Starling

This isn’t a regular book, but it’s an elimination puzzle book and it’s wonderful. I have been obsessed with it since I got it and have gone to bed way too late because I was so engaged haha. At the moment I’m looking for similar ones to take with me on vacation!
