Review | Mr & Mrs Dixon Hide a Body – Jennifer Holdich

It’s been a while since I finished a new book! But I have finished my eARC of Mr & Mrs Dixon Hide a Body by Jennifer Holdich. This book will be released in May and today I wanted to share my thoughts with you all, so let’s dive in!

To have and to hold, to lie and to kill…

Meet James and Daisy Dixon. They get along perfectly well – especially when on separate sides of their huge manor house, where Daisy can plot her husband’s murder in peace.

However, after accidentally killing a man on their way home from a lavish party, they’re forced to work together to bury the evidence. All is going surprisingly smoothly, until the day the rain washes up more than it’s supposed to… and suddenly, the Dixons are suspects.

As husband and wife battle it out to be the not-guilty party, Daisy starts working on a plot of her own… after all, it wouldn’t be the first time, would it?

All’s fair in love and war . . . especially in this marriage.

Last year I read Jennifer Holdich’s debut novel Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath and I absolutely loved it. It was dark, it was funny and it was unhinged. So obviously I was immediately interested in the next book Jennifer Holdich wrote. The synopsis of Mr & Mrs Dixon Hide a Body sounded pretty intriguing and I started reading my eARC pretty soon after getting it.

It took me awhile to finish this book and that had more to do with me, than with the story. But at the same time I’m not completely sure how I’m feeling about it. The story was enjoyable, but I think I was expecting more after Julie Tudor. I would say there is less humor in this one, the humor is quieter if that makes sense. It’s also less dark than Julie Tudor in my opinion.

The book started off really interesting and the last bit was good as well. However, the middle dragged a bit. We were promised a battle to be the not-guilty party and I expected more from that part. It wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be. Still, Daisy was an intersting main character. She’s a little odd and also kinda uninteresting to be honest. It did also make her pretty realistic haha. In the end there was more to her then I expected though.

Overall I did enjoy the book, but I didn’t love it. Where I wanted to recommend Julie Tudor to a lot of readers, I’m not sure who I would recommend this one to. I do think there are readers who are going to enjoy this one, but for me it wasn’t really memorable unfortunately. Still, I will be on the lookout for the next Jennifer Holdich story!
