Bookish Beginnings on Friday | The Lure of Wolves and Whispers – Amanda Connolly

We have a lot of eARC’s and we want to promote them a little bit more. So we decided to do some more Bookish Beginnings On Friday. Today I wanted to share the start of The Lure of Wolves and Whispers by Amanda Connolly. I got an eARC through Netgalley and this book will be released in July. Let’s see how this book starts!

A darkly addictive romantasy debut about a girl who sacrifices everything to buy the dangerous magic that could save her sister – the first in a trilogy perfect for fans of The Foxglove King and Throne of Glass.

On the mist-shrouded Isle of Eireann, buying magic comes with a price.

But when her beloved older sister is gravely injured, Maeve risks everything to buy the forbidden magic that might save her. In exchange, Maeve trades her life to a ruthless and dangerously alluring rebel leader. Bound to do his bidding, Maeve finds herself thrown into a deadly competition to become the next queen and stand beside a prince rumoured to be more brutal than his tyrannical father.

With the isle on the brink of war, trust and survival come at a terrible cost-one that will tear Maeve’s world, and her heart, in two.

What would you sacrifice to survive?

The traitor stuck up on the Black Quay still isn’t dead. I think I hate him for it, even if my mother would’ve despised me for the thought. His screams faded to heaving groans hours ago, not long after the fresh flush of dawn bled across the city. That was after we all woke up to the sounds of his shrieks. Now the reek of him up on his blackened pike beside all the other people the High King deems traitors is enough to make my eyes burn. Just in case any of us dared to go a day without remembering the cost of bartering magic.

I like this opening! It immediately tells me something about the world and makes me want to know more. I like it when the start of a book makes me want to keep on reading right away. The synopsis also makes me curious about this one, the start of a romantasy trilogy for the fans of Throne of Glass. Sounds good to me! I don’t think there’s anything that can compare to Throne of Glass for me, but who knows, maybe I’ll be surprised haha.

For me this cover isn’t doing anything, I wouldn’t pick this book up based on the cover but the title did lure me in haha. I also love that this has a deadly competition, that is something that will always pull me in. Having to do it all because of a sibling is pretty predictable, but I’m curious to see how it will all play out.

Was this book on your radar? Are you excited about this release? And what do you think of the start of the book? Let me know down below!
