Bookish Item | My Favorite Reads of 2025

While I read 66 books in 2025, only 30 of those were ‘new’ reads, the other 36 were rereads haha. So guess that makes it a bit easier to pick my favorite reads right? I will say I really enjoyed most of the books that I read. After taking a look at my 4, 4.5 and 5 star reads I decided to do a top 10. It was pretty hard to narrow it down and some books I really enjoyed didn’t end up in my top 10, but I had to be strict and so this is my top 10. Let’s jump in!

10. Onyx Storm – Rebecca Yarros

This wasn’t the best book in the series so far and I have seen a lot of complaints, but I did really enjoy it! I was great to back in this world and with these characters, I had some really emotional moments and I’m excited for the next book!

9. Once a Villain – Vanessa Len

Another one that wasn’t the best in the series, but still a really solid final to the series. I love this series a lot and I wish more people talked about it. The first one is probably my favorite. There were some elements in this last book that I didn’t love, but overall it was a great read!

8. Jade City – Fonda Lee

I finally started reading this series and while it took me a bit to get into the story, I ended up enjoying it a lot! There were a lot of plot points I didn’t see coming and I was truly shocked at some of them!

7. We Are All Guilty Here – Karin Slaughter

I love Karin Slaughter, her books are gruesome and thrilling and she’s my favorite crime writer. She didn’t disappoint with this one! It’s the start to a new series and I can’t wait for the next one.

6. Automatic Noodle – Annalee Newitz

I finally read an Annelee Newitz book and it was great! This is a novella and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me I need to read more of those and I finally need to read my other Annalee Newitz book. This is about robots starting a noodle restaurant and there were so many parallels to our world.

5. Alchemised – SenLinYu

What a book! It is huge, but thanks to the audiobook I flew through it. I really liked the fanfiction this was based upon and I was so curious to see how it would be adapted. The author did a good job creating a whole new world and I liked the little changes she made to the plot. Although I did miss the paper cranes!

4. Silvercloak – Laura Steven

Laura Steven is such a great person and I was really excited to dive into this newest book by her. It had a really cool concept and I enjoyed it a lot. There was a plot point at the end I usually really dislike, but I actually enjoyed the execution in this story. Hopefully we’re getting the sequel this year!

3. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil- V.E. Schwab

Another favorite author of mine! I have read most of V.E. Schwab’s books by now and this one is probably really high up on my V.E. Schwab ranking. The vampires were cool and I really enjoyed the storytelling. It was also so interesting to see how someone becomes a villain.

2. The Golden Raven – Nora Sakavic

This cover is awful haha, but the book is absolutely amazing! I love this series so so much and I honestly can’t wait for the sequel. Although I’m also dreading it, it will be so emotional and I’m not ready to say goodbye just yet.

1. Sunrise on the Reaping – Suzanne Collins

This had to be my number 1 pick and I think a lot of readers will agree with me. Suzanne Collins wrote a masterpiece! I thought I knew how the story would unfold before going in, but I was proven wrong almost instantly. There were so many tearjerker moments and I don’t think I ever recovered, I just know the movie will destroy me once again.

It took me a while to sort my thoughts and make this an actual top 10. And if you ask me again in a week the middle might change a bit. Still, I think the top 3 will remain consistent and I’m really happy with the overall top 10. What do you think of my top reads of 2025? What was your favorite book of the year?
