Dark romances are something I enjoy more than I thought I would. Your Knife, My Heart is one I’ve been seeing around quite a bit recently. This takes place in the same world as Leave Me Behind. I finally curled up with this one and it’s time to tell you what it’s about and what I thought!
A big thank you to Netgalley and Bloom Books for providing me with an eARC to read and review. This doesn’t affect my opinion in any way.
From NY Times and USA Today Bestselling author KM Moronova comes a brand-new compelling and addictive dark romance in her Dark Forces world.
Dark. Deadly. Irresistible.
Cameron Mortem has a problem―he can’t stop killing his partners. Officially labeled clinically insane, he’s also one of the most lethal assets in the Dark Forces, a brutal underground military operation built on obedience, survival, and silence. But an experimental drug has fractured his control, making him a liability whenever someone else is on the field. As punishment, he’s thrown back into the Under Trials―a merciless boot camp designed to break the weak and sharpen the ruthless.
His one directive? Don’t kill the new girl.
Emery Maves narrowly escapes a death sentence after her own brutal crimes, only to find herself forced into the same violent world. Assigned to Cameron, she’s expected to survive the Trials and her partner’s unstable nature. But Emery quickly realizes there’s more to Cameron than bloodlust and body counts. Beneath the madness lies a terrifying allure―and a strange, dangerous tenderness.
As the Trials push them to their limits, Emery must navigate the brutal demands of the Dark Forces while resisting the pull of a man who could just as easily kill her as protect her. And Cameron must fight the one urge he’s never been able to overcome.
Their bond is intoxicating, chaotic, and born of violence. And if it doesn’t destroy them both, it might just save them.
Review
If you’re looking for a dark romance that’s dark, I highly recommend Your Knife, My Heart. The book starts off with a bang. Our MMC isn’t capable of keeping his partner alive. They all seem to die at his hands. Cameron is basically a guinea pig after he seems to keep surviving all of the trial medications they give him. Emery doesn’t expect to see the outside world again after being sentenced to all of her crimes that she committed because of her father. Who knew there was another opportunity!
Cameron and Emery shouldn’t work together, but they do. After she survives the night with him, they enter the trials! The banter, the spice, but also how this book hits you in all the feels were things I wasn’t expecting. These two are both broken for different reasons and seems to help put the other back together again. There’s suspense, sarcastic characters, and some you’re not sure if you can trust. I never expected to get invested as I did!
The only thing I do wish is that we got more show than tell! I would’ve loved more scenes seeing Cameron train Emery. Even some more of the government side of things with the general Cameron is close with. Or more interactions with some of the side characters we get to know. I did enjoy the dual POV and some glimpses of the past that we get. Even in such a dark world, I want these two to get their happily ever after. The ending makes me wonder if that’s what will happen though! The author definitely leaves us hanging with that last chapter! I know I’ll be devouring the sequel the day it releases!

After that ending I need the second book ASAP! Thankfully, the next book releases in December. Have you read any dark (military) romances lately? I’m always open for some more recommendations. So I’d love to hear from you!
