TTT #391 | Summer Freebie

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is a summer freebie. I have to admit I’m usually not the biggest fan of freebies. After thinking it over, I decided to go with books that scream summer to me. And that could be for various reasons. So let’s get into it!

1. The Sunshine Court – Nora Sakavic

This takes place during the summer and also has sunshine in the title. Couldn’t be more of a summer read could it? Well, I’ll admit the content isn’t super summery haha.

2. Assistant to the Villain – Hannah Nicole Maehrer

This pick is all about the vibe, I don’t even know if I can really explain my choice here. Somehow this book gives me summer vibes, more specifically the end of summer vibes.

3. My Calamity Jane – Cynthia Hand,  Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows

I picked this one because it’s basically about cowboys, and somehow cowboys feel like summer to me. It might be because I associate cowboys with desert like surroundings and those very much scream summer to me.

4. 10 Things I Hate About Pinky – Sandhya Menon

I don’t ever remember when this one was set. But both the title and the genre feel like summer to me. It’s also a book I would pick up in either the spring of the summer, as that fits really well in my mind.

5. The Cheerleaders – Kara Thomas

This book is set in Sunnybrook, couldn’t think of a more summer sounding town haha. I also associate cheerleaders with summer for reasons unknown. Maybe because I usually see them outside in movies haha.

6. Beneath the Sugar Sky – Seanan McGuire

The setting of this one is mostly Confection (a Candy Land kind of world) and that just sounds like summer to me somehow. I guess the color scheme on the cover also helps with that summer vibe.

7. Adorkable – Cookie O’Gorman

This is such a cute read, and that fits the summer vibe perfectly in my opinion! I also get summer vibes from the title and the cover and I remember getting a warm and fuzzy feeling from this story.

I realised I read a lot of ‘autumn’ books, so it was pretty difficult writing this post haha. In the end I only managed 7 books, but that probably would be different if you ask me next week, or next month haha. I’m sure I missed some obvious ones, but for now these are some of the summer reads I’ve read over the years.

  1. These all sound cute.

I like the freebie posts when I can easily come up with a topic for it, but that doesn’t always happen. Ha!
