We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Books that Include/Feature … And you can basically pick your own topic. I find these kind of topics always so hard to start haha. After thinking for a bit, I decided to go with books that have tournaments in them. I love love love to read about tournaments, they can be magical or just like a sports tournament. And I have picked out 10 to share today, so let’s jump in!
1. Fence – C.S. Pacat & Johanna the Mad
I adore this graphic novel series so so much. It’s about fencing and of course we get tournaments! There is a lot of training, something I also appreciate in novels like this, you don’t get good overnight. I hope we get another volume soon.
2. Never Ever Getting Back Together- Sophie Gonzales
I was debating if this one counted, but I decided to go for it. This book is about a reality show/contest like The Bachelor. I really enjoyed this one! It once again showed me that I love Sophie Gonzales’ writing and that I should pick up the rest of her books asap.
3. All Of Us Villains – Amanda Foody & C.L. Herman
The synopsis of this one for sure sold it for me. I really enjoyed this duology about a tournament to the death. It also mentioned The Hunger Games in the synopsis, so that is always a sellingpoint haha.
4. The Serpent and the Wings of Night – Carissa Broadbent
The Hunger Games but with vampires, do you need to know more? I really liked this one! The second book wasn’t as good in my opinion but still very enjoyable. And I for sure want to read more by this author!
5. Haikyu – Haruichi Furudate
As you might know, I love this manga so much! It’s about volleyball and there are a couple of tournaments in the complete series. Tournaments span multiple volumes so they get very detailed and I love it.
6. A Court of Silver Flames – Sarah J. Maas
I didn’t know there was going to be a tournament in this one before I picked it up. But I’m happy there was! I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would to be honest.
7. Warcross – Marie Lu
I will admit I bought this book because of the naked hardback, it’s so gorgeous. But I ended up really enjoying the story, mostly because of the tournament element. It’s just something that grabs hold of me every single time!
8. A Gathering of Shadows – V.E. Schwab
This was such a great book! I loved that we got a very different storyline compared to the first book. A magical tournament is my favorite kind of tournament and I could about them forever and forever haha.
9. Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas
I almost forgot that the first book started with a tournament, it’s how the whole story started haha. This is one of my favorite series ever and I have reread it so many times already. The tournament is still an element I highly enjoy.
10. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire- J.K. Rowling
This is where it all started for me! I loved both the Quidditch World Cup and the TriWizard Tournament. It’s my favorite book out of the series and even though the author is problematic this one holds a space in my heart.
And that was my top ten for today! Do you like tournaments in books? And what are your favorite tournament books? Let me know down below!
I have A Court of Silver Flames on my Audible and I’m procrastinating listening to it. I’m not sure why, I just can’t seem to get around to it. Glad you liked it more than you thought you would, I may actually start it soon!
I am the least sporty person ever, but I do like reading about tournaments!
