5 On My TBR | Winter Celebrations

As we’ve mentioned before, one of our most important reading goals of is shrinking our physical TBR’s. Sometimes it’s hard to think of what books we still have or what subjects to read about. So we needed a way to keep track of this. 5 On My TBR is a way of keeping track. This is a meme hosted by E from Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Every week there’s a different prompt for five on my TBR.

This week’s topic is Winter Celebrations. This seems like a bit of a broad category with a lot of personal input. So I have no idea what books I will end up putting on this list haha. Let’s jump in!

1. Wintersong – S. Jae-Jones

With a title like this, how could this not be the first book in this list? I don’t really remember what this is about, it might be a retelling of the Goblin King? It’s not really a story I’m familiar with but I have heard great things about it. Wintersong is the first book in a duology and I’m not really feeling like getting into that at the moment to be honest.

2. Vassa in the Night – Sarah Porter

This is a retelling of the Russian folktale Vassilissa the Beautiful, and to me that sounds pretty wintery. I have been planning on reading this one for years and years now, but it still hasn’t happened. Maybe I should do another try a chapter tag with this one.

3. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black

The cold gives me a winter vibe, even though the cold refers to vampires in this case haha. And somehow vampires to me aren’t wintery at all, is that weird? Still, I think this counts for this list haha. While I loved some more recent Holly Black books, I really disliked some of her older work and since then I haven’t been that excited for this one.

4. A Breath of Snow and Ashes – Diana Gabaldon

This feels a little bit like cheating, since this is book 6 in the Outlander series and I have yet to read book 5. However, I do own the book so in that regard it totally counts. I solely picked this one because it has snow in the title haha.

5. Spinning Silver – Naomi Novik

This one might not really fit the category, but I think the cover gives off a winter vibe and a fairytale retelling always gives me a winter vibe as well. Since I loved Uprooted and everyone seems to like this one way better I have high hopes for this Rumpelstiltskin retelling.

That was my 5 On My TBR for today! I had some troubles getting this list together but in the end I managed to pick 5 books haha. What do you think of my picks? Do you think they fit ‘winter celebrations’? I would love to hear from you!
