We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is books to read during a storm! I tend to either love dark atmospheric books or cozy and heartwarming books while it’s storming outside. Here are ten books I’ve been saving to read during a storm!
Curious Tides – Pascale Lacelle
Curious Tides is a dark academia fantasy with a secret society! For me that has a stormy read all over it. I’ve been wanting to read this one since I heard about it. The sequel recently released, so it’s time for me to start this series.
The Thirteenth Child – Erin A. Craig
The Thirteenth Child has a main character who is none other than the goddaughter of Death. This is apparently a fairy tale retelling, but I’m not sure of what. I loved the Sisters of Salt duology by this author, so I’m hoping to love this one just as much.
The Society for Soulless Girls – Laura Steven
Laura Steven became one of my favorite authors after I read The Exact Opposite of Okay and since then she’s also visited other genres. The Society for Soulless Girls is a YA thriller with a supernatural twist. This one caught my eye because it takes place at a boarding school. Which just happens to be one of my favorite settings.
House of Marionne – J. Elle
All I know is that House of Marionne has deadly magic, a dark secret, and there is an assassin hunting our main character. This is the type of book I love to curl up with during a dark and stormy night.
This Ravenous Fate – Hayley Dennings
Vampires in the 1920s? Yes, please! As I’ve said I love a good fantasy book during a dark and stormy night. This Ravenous Fate is a book that sounds really good to me and I’m excited to finally read this one.
A Sea of Unspoken Things – Adrienne Young
Adrienne Young writes very atmospheric reads and that calls for a dark and stormy night. A Sea of Unspoken Things releases in January and our main character is investigating her brother’s mysterious death. I’m hoping this one has a splash of magical realism like her other books do.
A Serial Killer’s Guide to Marriage – Asia Mackay
Our main characters are ex-serial killers. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like this, haha. I have a feeling one of them is going to relapse in one way or another, but I don’t want to know too much going into this book.
House of Frank – Kay Sinclaire
House of Frank is described as a warm and hopeful story that deals with grief and seems to have elements of found family. I’ve heard this story is very emotional, but very heartwarming.
Not in Love – Ali Hazelwood
Not in Love is the only Ali Hazelwood book I haven’t read yet and that needs to change. I know that readers have mixed feelings about Not in Love, but I’m still going to read it to see where I stand. Besides the atmospheric books, I also enjoy romances and cozy reads during stormy days.
Funny Story – Emily Henry
A story about a woman who falls in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex? It sounds complicated, haha. I’ve loved all of Emily Henry’s books I’ve read and I have a feeling it will be no different with Funny Story. I have a feeling this one is going to leave a smile on my face.
So here are ten books I’m hoping to read when it’s storming out. It’s almost winter, so there’s a big chance of getting this kind of weather. Have you read any of these? Or what are some books you like to read during a storm? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
House of Frank sounds good.
I’ll be reading House of Marionne soon so I’ll have to keep that in mind.
I’m reading my first Emily Henry right now – Happy Place! It has been fun for sure and Funny Story sounds entertaining.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I hope you enjoy reading all of these when the mood hits.
