I really enjoyed the Geek Girl book series, while at times the story was predictable and maybe somewhat cringey it was also a lot of fun. So when I became aware of the tv show, I had to watch it when it was released. And that was the case last week, so of course I have been watching Netflix all weekend haha!
Awkward, neurodivergent teenager Harriet Manners whose life is turned upside down when she is spotted to be a model and embarks on a life-affirming journey of self-discovery as she balances high school and high fashion.
There are 10 episodes and they’re all about 30 minutes. This first season is the story from the first book and it looks like there won’t be a second season unfortunately. I like that they took their time with the storyline from the first book and it wasn’t rushed.
I really enjoyed the show. It’s a fun thing to watch, not super special or exciting but really enjoyable none the less. There are some unbelievable moments in the show, but at the same time, that was the whole premise of the book series in the first place haha.
I liked Harriet as a character and I loved seeing the autism representation. Unfortunately she is never truly called autistic in the show, that would’ve made it even better. But I really loved how her neurodivergency was displayed.
Like I said, this was a really fun show to watch, I binged it in a day. Especially if you’ve read the books, I would highly recommend this series. Don’t expect anything special but just enjoy the ride!
