Down the TBR Hole #124

This week’s Down the TBR Hole is starting off with two books less than it ended with last time. I actually read two books on my want to read shelf. Yay me!

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. This meme is now being hosted by Jody from I’m Into Books. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 751 (my last post ended at 753. So we’re down two books since last time.)

When Gracie Met the Grump – Mariana Zapata

Mariana Zapata is an author I hear nothing but amazing things about and I’m told she’s the queen of slow burn romances. When Gracie Met the Grump seems to have a super hero as a main character who’s a grump? All I know is that I want to read this.

Keep

Fourth Wing – Rebecca Yarros

This is a case of I wish Goodreads would stop keeping other editions of a book you’ve already read on your shelf. I read Fourth Wing right before it released (I had an ALC) and I loved it. I’m now anxiously awaiting the third book. Is it January yet?!?

Remove

The Tragedy of Felix and Jake – J. Daniels

J. Daniels wrote one of my favorite romance series: Alabama Summer. She wasn’t writing for a few years, but The Tragedy of Felix and Jake was her first new release in 2023. I’m actually surprised I haven’t read this forbidden romance yet. I’ve seen many readers say this is an emotional one, but I’m here for it.

Keep

Shopaholic & Baby and Mini Shopaholic – Sophie Kinsella

Years ago I loved the Shopaholic series, but I haven’t read these two books. I did read the Christmas book in this series, but wasn’t a big fan. My reading tastes have changed over the years and sadly I don’t think this is for me anymore.

Remove

Blackbringer – Laini Taylor

I think I added Blackbringer to my want to read shelf when I was reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I loved that book, but I honestly haven’t even though about Blackbringer. So I think for the moment I’m taking it off of my list.

Remove

Entwined with You – Sylvia Day

The Crossfires series is one I started after reading Fifty Shades of Grey. I saw that I read book two in 2013 and I haven’t continued the series. At this point, I don’t think I will. I’ve found other romances I love and don’t imagine I’ll come back to this series.

Remove

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

The Book Thief is a book that I know many people see as a classic and say is beautiful. Historical fiction isn’t really my genre and I just don’t see myself picking up this book.

Remove

Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns – Lauren Weisberger

The Devil Wears Prada was a book I enjoyed and I enjoyed the movie as well. I think the trend of this week’s post is mostly that my reading tastes have changed since I first started adding things to my want to read list. So again, I don’t see myself picking this one up anymore.

Remove

Nine’s Legacy – Pittacus Lore

It seems I added most of the books in this world after I read I Am Number Four. My boyfriend read quite a few of these books and enjoyed them, but for some reason I just haven’t continued. Nine’s Legacy is also book two, and I haven’t read book one. So for now this one is being removed from the shelf.

Removal Percentage: 80%
Current “to-read” shelf: 734

I can’t believe this was post 124 already, but it is the start of going over my list again. I did remove more than 10, because I decided to take off the 9 Nicholas Sparks books at the top of my want to read shelf. I read a lot of his books in the past, but I don’t know if I will again in the near future. This week I removed 8 out of 10 books from my shelves. I don’t think I’ve ever done that much in a post. What do you think of my decisions? Is there something I should read? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
