Since my last Down the TBR Hole, I’ve been able to take one book off of my want to read shelf. I’ll take that as some progress. Especially after not having the best reading week due to some personal circumstances this week. Let’s see if we can take off some more.
Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. This meme is now being hosted by Jody from I’m Into Books. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “to-read” shelf: 772 (my last post ended at 773. So one less book since last time.)
The Atelier Assignment – Annie Dyer
The Atelier Assignment is a grumpy single-dad, enemies to lovers romance. And I can say that’s something I love to read. This book is the second of a series though and I haven’t read the first book. My rule still sticks even to (interconnected)standalones. So for now, I’ll be taking this one off of my TBR shelf.
Remove
Lords of Pain – Angel Lawson
Reading the synopsis has me wondering why I have this one added on my want to read shelf, but then I looked at the reviews and saw quite a few of my book club friends loved Lords of Pain. For me this seems like a book I don’t think I’ll love, but I’ll probably devour. I’ll give it a chance.
Keep
All the Little Things – Rachel Leigh
All the Little Things is a book that caught my eye when I saw the cover. I love covers like this, but the story also sounds really interesting. A brother’s best friend romance? I also have the feeling this one is going to have me crying at least once while reading.
Keep
Folk Around and Find Out – Penny Reid
I’ve read books by Penny Reid before and have enjoyed them. Looking at Goodreads I noticed that Folk Around and Find Out is the second book in the Good Folk: Modern Folktales series. I haven’t read the first book yet. This does sound like a series I’ll love, so I’ll have to look up book one soon.
Remove
Big Duke Energy – Emma Hart
When I read the synopsis for Big Duke Energy I was sold after reading that our main character is a romance author. I just have a feeling that this book is going to be hilarious!
Keep
Secrets Kill – Laurel Night
Secrets Kill isn’t a book that I remembered at first until I read the synopsis again. I definitely get why I added this to my want to read shelf. That being said, I don’t think I’ll be getting to this one anytime soon.
Remove
Tough Sh*t – Sheridan Anne
Sheridan Anne is an author I’ve heard amazing things about, but haven’t read anything by yet. The reviews for Tough Sh*t make me think you either love this book or you don’t. That really makes me wonder if I’m going to love this one, but I don’t think I’ll be reading this one soon. So for now, I’ll take it off of my shelf.
Remove
Make the Season Bright – Ashley Herring Blake
So Make the Season Bright doesn’t have a cover yet, but I love Ashley’s writing. The Bright Falls trilogy had me hooked and I’ve loved some of her middle grade books. Also, it’s a Christmas romance, I’ll always say yes to those, haha. I can’t wait for this one to release.
Keep
Conversations with Friends -Sally Rooney
Conversations with Friends is a book I added to my shelf after hearing about it getting a TV adaption. I still haven’t watched the show or read the book. I know quite a few readers who love Sally Rooney. This author does sound like one I may enjoy, but at the moment I don’t own this book.
Remove
Crooked Crows – Elena Lawson
I think it’s safe to say that this time on my shelf is when I discovered dark romance, haha. Crooked Crows is another book I added because of my book club and I’m definitely still intrigued, but this book hasn’t been on my radar since I added it. So for now, I’m removing it from my want to read shelf.

Current “to-read” shelf: 766
We’re really nearing the end of this list! I’m curious to see what happens when I have to start over. This week was very productive though, because six out of the ten books are now off of my want to read shelf. What do you think of my choices? Or have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
