Down the TBR Hole #115

I’m happy to say that my Goodreads want to read shelf has decreased by three books since my last Down the TBR Hole. I’ve been doing good reading some backlist books!

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. This meme is now being hosted by Jody from I’m Into Books. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 787 (my last post ended at 790. So that’s three less books than last time.)

By the Book – Jasmine Guillory

In November I read the first book in this series, If the Shoe Fits. I really enjoyed that one. By the Book has our main character who works in publishing and I have a feeling this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. After enjoying If the Shoe Fits, I need to read this one.

The Song of the Marked – S.M. Gaither

As a fan of romantasy, I’m curious about The Song of the Marked. Our main character is a mercenary and gets the assignment to investigate a plague devastating the empire. While doing that she meets Captain Elander. I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting one. I haven’t read much fantasy romance this year, but I have to change that.

Keep

League of Liars – Astrid Scholte

League of Liars is a fantasy thriller with a heist! Need I say more? I received this book last year I think and it sounds so good. I love heists in stories, so I need to make this one a priority!

Keep

Just Like Magic – Sarah Hogle

Just Like Magic is a book I didn’t get to last Christmas, but sounds like fun! Our main character plays “All I Want for Christmas Is You” backwards and summons a Holiday Spirit. This is definitely going to make things interesting. I think I need to read this one in December.

Keep

The Unsinkable Greta James – Jennifer E. Smith

I remember hearing about The Unsinkable Greta James when it released and it sounded good. I’ve only read YA books by Jennifer E. Smith and this an adult release. Our main character who is an indie musician reconnects with her estranged father on a week long cruise. This sounds like it’s going to be a very emotional story.

Keep

The Boy With the Bookstore – Sarah Echavarre Smith

Just the title alone makes me want to read The Boy With the Bookstore. Our main characters are a baker and a bookshop owner. Sounds like a perfect combination to me. This is a grumpy/sunshine romance I think? Unfortunately, this is one I don’t own and I don’t know when I’ll get to it, so for now I’m removing it from my shelf.

Remove

Even Though I Knew the End – C.L. Polk

Even Though I Knew the End is a novella I’ve heard amazing things about. Our main character can secure a future with the one she loves if she tracks down Chicago’s most notorious serial killer. This sounds amazing, but with it being only 144 pages I wonder if it’s going to be enough.

Keep

My Dear Henry – Kalynn Bayron

My Dear Henry is a gothic YA remix of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and I don’t think I’ve ever read a retelling like this. I’ve read books by Kalynn Bayron before, so I’ll definitely have to read this.

Keep

No One Is Alone – Rachel Vincent

I’m one who loves hard-hitting contemporary books and No One Is Alone sounds like one. Our main character must move in with her dad after her mom passes. If that event alone isn’t hard enough, she comes to find out she’s the product of an affair when she moves in with her father’s family. I need to read No One Is Alone.

Keep

The Unknown Beloved – Amy Harmon

Amy Harmon is an author I hear amazing things about and The Unknown Beloved sounds interesting. I don’t read a lot of historical fiction, but this takes place in a time I’m curious about and is also a thriller.

Removal Percentage: 10%
Current “to-read” shelf: 786

So that’s another Down the TBR Hole! I didn’t do really well in this one, but there were so many books that sound amazing here. Have you read any of these? Let me know if you have and what book you think I should read first. I’d love to hear from you!
