Down the TBR Hole #91

If I’m counting correctly I can proudly say that this is the fourth week of having less books on my want to read shelf than I did during the previous Down the TBR Hole. And I haven’t added any new books to this shelf either. I’m really hoping to get under 900 before the end of 2022.

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 10 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 907 (my last post ended at 908. So in 2 weeks I actually read one of the books on this shelf and haven’t added any new ones. Yay me!! I’m doing great!)

To Whatever End – Lindsey Frydman

The concept of being able to see the last time you’ll see someone when touching them is an interesting concept. Not a gift I would want. If you can call it a gift. Seeing you have to do with someone’s death makes things a little complicated. This happens to the main character in To Whatever End. I’m still really curious about this one.

Keep

By Mistake – Sigal Ehrlich

I’m normally a big fan of accidental emails or texts that start a relationship, but I honestly forgot about By Mistake. At the moment I don’t have the book, so I think for now I’ll take it off of my list.

Remove

Along the Saltwise Sea – A. Deborah Baker

Along the Saltwise Sea is the sequel to Over the Woodward Wall that I enjoyed. Honestly, I didn’t even know this was out yet or that the third book is in the world as well. I’ll definitely have to look up the audiobook for this one (it’s how I also read the first book).

Keep

Once Upon a Broken Heart – Stephanie Garber

At the moment I’m still debating whether or not I want to finish reading the Caraval series before diving into this one. They can be read separately, but the main character is someone from Caraval. Either way I want to read Once Upon a Broken Heart. I’ve heard so many great things.

Keep

You’re the One That I Want – Simon James Green

Simon James Green is an author I’ve heard amazing things about, but I’ve never read anything by. You’re the One That I Want sounds like a book for me. Our main character is sick of being invisible and plans on changing that. I have a feeling he’ll definitely learn a lot in this story.

Keep

Midnight in Everwood – Maria Kuzniar

A retelling of The Nutcracker was the first thing to catch my attention. Midnight in Everwood sounds so good. Also, look at this stunning cover. Now would actually be the perfect time to read this book.

Keep

Always Jane – Jenn Bennett

Jenn Bennett is an author I’ve enjoyed a few books by. Always Jane sounds like another one right up my alley. Love triangles normally don’t work for me, but this one may be one I enjoy. I’ll at least give it a try.

Keep

Girl in the Walls – A.J. Gnuse

Girl in the Walls is a book in my last that I don’t remember. After reading the synopsis, I’m not sure what to think of this one, so for now I’m going to take it off my list.

Remove

The Future is Yours – Dan Frey

Our main characters create a machine that can predict the future. We all know that it’s not going to go as smoothly as they think. I really have to be in the mood for this type of book and it’s not calling to me right now.

Remove

The Wild Ones – Nafia Azad

I haven’t heard many people talk about The Wild Ones since it released, but it still sounds like a really powerful story. I’ll definitely give this one a try.

Keep

Removal Percentage: 30%
Current “to-read” shelf: 904

So that’s another Down the TBR Hole! I ended up removing three books from my want to read shelf this week, so that’s progress. Hopefully that means next time I’ll get under the 900 mark. What do you think of my choices? Would you have picked differently? Let me know in the comments!
