Bookish Item | August TBR

How am I already talking about the books I want to read in August?!? I keep saying it, but this year is really flying by. Once again, I probably won’t stick to my TBR, but here are some books I’ll be reading for book clubs and some books and e-arcs I really want to get to! Keep on reading to find out more.

Book Club/Group/Buddyreads

Hang the Moon – Alexandria Bellefleur

I really enjoyed Written in the Stars and was actually planning on reading Hang the Moon earlier this year I believe. As usual, I got distracted and only got like 100 pages in. I was enjoying Annie and Brendon’s story and it’s time to see how it all plays out.

Finaly Donovan Is Killing It – Elle Cosimano

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is one I’ve been wanting to read since October when I added this book to my collection. I now actually have access to an e-arc of the third book releasing in January, so I need to take advantage of this book club read.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevin

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a book I saw everywhere on bookstagram around release day. I feel like this is a book that follows characters and their ups and down, but also gaming? I’m not really sure what I’m about to read, but I’m excited!

Heart Bones – Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover writes books that I enjoy and almost always makes me cry. There’s a book club on bookstagram that reads a book of hers every month and I couldn’t think of a better way to catch up on her backlist. August’s book in Heart Bones. All I know is that this will probably be another emotional read.

Nyxia Uprising – Scott Reintgen

The day before typing this I just finished reading Nyxia Unleashed. This science fiction trilogy is action packed and well written. I never know who to trust and things definitely happen that I don’t expect and some thing I do. I’m not sure how everything is going to be wrapped up in just one more book, but hopefully Nyxia Uprising answers all of my questions.

ARCs/Book Tours

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches – Sangu Mandanna

All I need to know most time is that there will be witches and I want to read a book. The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches is a book that I’m really looking forward to. A witch that lives in secret ends up moving in with a family to teach three young witches about their powers. And I have a feeling we’re getting a romance as well.

Just Another Love Song – Kerry Winfrey

High school sweethearts get a second chance romance in Just Another Love Song and that’s right up my alley. I have a feeling there will be a few bumps in the road, but I’m excited to read this romance.

Thank You For Listening – Julia Whelan

Thank You For Listening sounds like just the book for me. An actress turned audiobook narrator that ends up recording the audiobook for a popular romance author’s last book. I just love this cover! If this isn’t a five star read I’ll be very surprised.

Carrie Soto Is Back – Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid is quickly becoming an auto-buy author for me and Carrie Soto Is Back is her next book. I was so grateful for this e-arc, so I really want to make sure to read it before release day.

Daisy Darker – Alice Feeney

After enjoying Rock Paper Scissors I really want to read more by Alice Feeney. Daisy Darker is her next release and a family reunion ends in murder. I know family can be intense, but this sounds nuts. I hope it’s filled with twists that keep me on the edge of my seat.

Author Spotlight

Okay, so I’m not announcing a new author spotlight, because I still need to complete the first two for Kathleen Glasgow & Jeff Zentner. Once I complete those, I’ll be ready for another one.

Books I Want to Read/Book Challenge

So recently I joined a book club on Discord that has weekly reads that are voted on every Saturday. Those will also be added to my TBR. They also have a monthly challenge with teams and the team that reads the most pages wins, but only current and older group reads count. There are quite a few of those reads I’m excited about, so here are a few I hope to get to.

After I Do -Taylor Jenkins Reid

As I mentioned already, Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author I love and there are a few backlist books for me to read. A couple takes a year off to fall in love again when their marriage becomes rocky. I have a feeling this is going to be a very emotional read.

Corrupt – Penelope Douglas

Corrupt is a book I’ve been really back and forth about reading. I’ve been reading more dark romance, but this is one I don’t know much about. It has a mystery, so I can’t help but be intrigued.

Haunting Adeline – H.D. Carlton

Another dark romance I’m curious about. I know there’s also a mystery in this one, but it has a stalker too? All I know is that it’s pretty dark and a few people I know really loved this book.

The Confidence of Wildflowers – Micalea Smeltzer

The Confidence of Wildflowers is a book that’s been all over bookstagram. The cover is beautiful, so it definitely drew me in. It’s an age gap romance and that’s not something I’ve read before. I hear it’s amazing, so let’s give it a try!

Twisted Love – Ana Huang

Another series that’s all over BookTok and bookstagram. I got this really pretty alternate cover. A brother’s best friend/opposites attract romance sounds like something I need in my life.

So these are the books I’m hoping to read in August. Have you read any of these? Let me know what you thought in the comments! What are you planning on reading? I always love seeing what other people want to read.

  1. That cover for Just Another Love Song….just…beautiful!
Haven´t read any of these, but I will keep on working on my unread books in my shelf. And I just got home from London so a few new ones have found it´s way back home to me and I love it. Will definitely read some of them! 😀

  2. I thought Hang the Moon was great – those awesome fuzzy feelings that were real romance, but didn’t have any heaviness to them (sometimes that’s great, for sure, but here I really appreciated the complete escape into the sweetness).
