Tag | ’90s Kid Book Tag

As I was born in 1990 I am for sure a ’90s kid and I thought it would be fun to do this book tag! The tag was created by Amber from The Literary Phoenix and I found it over at Zezee With Books. Highly recommend checking out both! For now, let’s jump in and see what this tag is all about.

POKEMON

A GBA GAME AND TRADING CARD GAME WHERE YOU BATTLED POCKET MONSTERS AND STRIVED TO CATCH THEM ALL. BACK IN THE DAY, THERE WERE ONLY 150 POKEMON.

THE AUTHOR YOU NEED EVERY BOOK FROM

There are a couple of authors I want all the books from and V.E. Schwab is one of them. I already own a ton of her books (all though I still need to read a couple of them) but there are a few I don’t have yet. Hopefully I can add them to my collection soon!

AIM

AOL INSTANT MESSAGING – HOW ’90S KIDS COMMUNICATED WITH THEIR FRIENDS AFTER SCHOOL BEFORE EVERYONE HAD A CELL PHONE.

BOOK THAT CONNECTED YOU WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND

I had to pick Throne of Glass for this one as it’s what brought Candyce and I together. We both were part of a read a long for the series an after chatting online for awhile we all got together in real life. Candyce and I really connected and it all let to this blog! So I will forever be grateful for that day I joined the read along <3

FURBY

CREEPY NEEDY ROBOTS YOU COULD TEACH TO TALK AND WERE PROBABLY DEMON POSSESSED. SOMEHOW THESE MADE A COMEBACK?

BOOK THAT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA BUT WAS ACTUALLY A MONSTER

Every one loves Neil Gaiman so when I came across The Ocean at the End of the Lane at a second hand book festival I decided to give it a go. Turns out, I’m not a fan haha. The writing style just wasn’t for me at all. While I’m still interested in American Gods I might just go for the tv show haha.

N’SYNC

’90S QUINTESSENTIAL BOY BAND. YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OF JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE?

A BOOK YOU HATED TO SAY BYE, BYE, BYE TO

So many of them! I love the Three Dark Crowns series for example, but I’m not ready to say bye bye bye so I haven’t finished the last book yet haha. It’s been two years now so I should finish it sooner than later haha.

SLIMED!

GETTING GREEN SLIME THROWN ON YOU, COURTESY OF THE SHOW FIGURE IT OUT. ALSO APPARENTLY STILL A THING AT THE KID’S CHOICE AWARDS?

A BOOK EVERYONE LOVED BUT YOU HATED

Defy Me, book 5 in the Shatter Me series, has got a very high rating but I really disliked the instalment and haven’t finished the series because of it. It was such a let down after Restore Me. Should I read Imagine Me? Is it worth it? Would love to hear your opinion!

OREGON TRAIL

’90S COMPUTER GAME YOU COULD USUALLY PLAY AT SCHOOL, WHICH WAS GREAT. IT TAUGHT US PEOPLE USED TO DIE A LOT OF GRUESOME, MESSY DEATHS.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU WISH YOU DIED OF DYSENTERY

Probably Night Film by Marisha Pessl. I had high hopes for this book but I’ve gone through over 600 pages for such a stupid ending. And it’s not like those 600+ pages before the ending were any fun haha.

MIXTAPE/CD

BACK BEFORE EVERYONE HAD MUSIC ON THEIR PHONES (REMEMBER, WE DIDN’T HAVE CELL PHONES!) FOLKS WOULD RIP THEIR CDS AND MAKE MIXES FOR EACH OTHER.

3 BOOKS YOU RECOMMEND TO ANYONE, ANYWHERE, NO MATTER WHAT

This is hard!! At the moment I would say The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, Ace of Spades and The Hunger Games haha. A bit of a weird combination of books probably. They’re all favorites though and I think a lot of people will enjoy all three of them. And they probably (hopefully) get you into other favorites of mine!

DIAL-UP INTERNET

YOU KNOW HOW IT’S ANNOYING WHEN YOU AREN’T ON LTE? IMAGINE WAITING 10 MINUTES FOR INTERNET TO START AND ANOTHER 20 MINUTES FOR GOOGLE TO LOAD!

A BOOK THAT TOOK FOR FREAKING EVER TO READ

For how little pages there were it took me so long to read Tithe. I loved Holly’s other books I read but Tithe was just not it for me. What a stupid main character haha. I just didn’t like it and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

KENAN THOMPSON

HE’S THAT GUY WHO’S BEEN ON SNL FOREVER. ALSO MIGHTY DUCKS. GOOD BURGER.KEENAN AND KEL. ALL THAT. EVERYTHING.

THAT BOOK YOU SEE REFERENCED EVERYWHERE AND IS IN EVERYTHING, BUT THAT’S OKAY BECAUSE IT’S AWESOME

I’m going to be cringey and just go with Harry Potter haha. Even after all this time? Always! The books, films, characters are everywhere and I love seeing them referenced in other books. While I don’t like JKR I still love the world (even though it had some issues).

THUMBS UP, SEVEN UP

A GAME WHERE MOST THE CLASS CLOSED THEIR EYES AND SEVEN PEOPLE TAPPED SOMEONE’S THUMB AND YOU HAD TO GUESS WHO DID IT WITHOUT PEEKING.

BOOK WHERE YOU PEEKED JUST REAL QUICK AT THE ENDING BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE GUESSING GAMES

Nope nope nope I don’t do that! I love the suspense and I love guessing where the story is taking me. So no peeking for me.

DUNKAROOS

THESE WERE BASICALLY JUST TEDDY GRAHAMS DIPPED IN FROSTING, WHICH IS STILL A WONDERFUL SNACK IDEA.

YOUR IDEAL BOOKISH SNACK

I usually just drink my tea while reading. If I had to get a snack it would probably be a cookie but it’s not ideal with all the crumbs haha. I don’t really eat while reading I guess.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK

COLLECTIONS OF SHORT STORIES THAT WOULD SCARE ANY SENSIBLE KID!  PLUS, THERE WERE ILLUSTRATIONS…

A BOOK THAT KEPT YOU UP ALL NIGHT

I got Mockingjay Christmas evening and I didn’t stop reading until I finished it at 5 in the morning haha. It was an amazing read and I just couldn’t put it down. I definitely bawled my eyes out and it broke my heart. But it was worth the sleepless night haha.

BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY

BASICALLY THE COOLEST THING YOU GOT TO DO IN SCIENCE CLASS WAS WATCH BILL NYE. HE HAS A NETFLIX SHOW AGAIN!

A BOOK THAT TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING NEW

I love reading about psychology so I guess I would say I learned some new things from Quiet by Susan Cain. It was also a lot of recognition and that was just really nice. I would definitely recommend this one if your interested in anything about introverts.

And that was the ’90s Kid Book Tag! I hope you had fun, I sure did! Which three books would you recommend to everyone? Let me know in the comments down below!

  1. I love this tag! Though as a fellow ancient 90s kid, it worries me that these prompts needed explaining, haha–I feel old!

  2. Oh my goodness I love this post, so many memories haha! I feel the same way about V.E Schwab, and Tithe lol. As for Gaiman, I get not loving Ocean at the End of the Lane, it reads more like a child’s book. My favorites of his are Neverwhere and Norse Mythology. American Gods was kinda meh for me.

  3. As soon as I saw the art, I knew I was looking at Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark. I specifcally remember the most horrifying horse with a MASSIVE nose/face lol. Great tag!
