We wanted to do another bookish meme on Wednesday and after doing Can’t Wait Wednesday a few times we decided that would be a fun one to bring around more often! About twice a month you’ll see this meme on our blog.
Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
From #1 New York Times bestselling authors Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu comes the second book in the Eldest Curses series and a thrilling new adventure for High Warlock Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood, for whom a death-defying mission into the heart of evil is not just a job, it’s also a romantic getaway. The Lost Book of the White is a Shadowhunters novel.
Life is good for Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood. They’re living together in a fabulous loft, their warlock son, Max, has started learning to walk, and the streets of New York are peaceful and quiet—as peaceful and quiet as they ever are, anyway.
Until the night that two old acquaintances break into Magnus’s apartment and steal the powerful Book of the White. Now Magnus and Alec will have to drop everything to get it back. They need to follow the thieves to Shanghai, they need to call some backup to accompany them, and they need a babysitter.
Also, someone has stabbed Magnus with a strange magical weapon and the wound is glowing, so they have that to worry about too.
Fortunately, their backup consists of Clary, Jace, Isabelle, and newly minted Shadowhunter Simon. In Shanghai, they learn that a much darker threat awaits them. Magnus’s magic is growing unstable, and if they can’t stop the demons flooding into the city, they might have to follow them all the way back to the source—to the very realm of the dead. Can they stop the threat to the world? Will they make it back home before their kid completely wears out Alec’s mom?
So that was a long synopsis haha. I don’t blame you if you didn’t read all of it haha. The Lost Book of the White is the second book in the Eldest Curses series. This is Cassandra Clare’s adult Magnus Bane series. And that means we get to see a ton of characters from the first series. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Apparently I hadn’t read the synopsis for this second book yet because I was pretty surprised haha. This doesn’t take place right after the first book, it’s actually years later. From what I gathered from the synopsis this takes place somewhere after the Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy book but probably before the end of The Dark Artifices series. At least before the last couple of novella’s in the Ghosts of the Shadow Market bind-up.
The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1) was such a pleasant surprise and I’m super excited for the next installment in this series. I really enjoy reading books in this universe and I personally don’t think there are too many books. Cassandra keeps coming up with great stories and she gets better and better at telling them.
Have you read any of the Shadowhunter series? And do you plan on reading the next series? Will you pick up The Lost Book of White? Come talk to me in the comments!
