Bookish Item | Book Beginnings on Friday: The Bromance Book Club – Lyssa Kay Adams

It’s time for another Book Beginnings on Friday! This meme was created by Rose City Reader. The idea is to post the first sentence or so of the book you’re currently reading. After that you talk about your initial thoughts about the sentence, book or anything to do with that. I don’t know how often we will do this, but it seems like fun from time to time. Today’s book is The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams.

The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club.
Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he’s let his pride and fear get the better of him.
Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.
Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.

There was a reason Gavin Scott rarely drank.
He was bad at it.
As in, face-planted on the carpet while reaching for the bottle bad. And too drunk to see in the dark so might as well stay down bad.

After listing 10 amazing opening lines on Tuesday I’ll admit this one fell a bit flat haha. But I was still intrigued after reading those couple of first lines. As you probably know, this is not a book I would normally pick up. It’s pretty far outside of my comfort zone! But Candyce loved it and she lent me her copy. So I figured I would just give it a shot!

I’ve read about 35 pages so far and really enjoyed it. Can you believe I’m actually reading an adult romance?! And it seems like I will enjoy the book too. Slowly my reading is expanding and that just a lot of fun to realize. I’m expecting this book to be cute and fun and I hope I’m right! If I remember correctly, this series is being optioned by Netflix and that’s so exciting!

Have you read this book? Or do you plan on reading it? And what do you think about the opening lines? Come talk to me in the comments!
