Can’t Wait Wednesday | The Damned – Renee Ahdieh

We wanted to do another bookish meme on Wednesday and after doing Can’t Wait Wednesday a few times we decided that would be a fun one to bring around more often! About twice a month you’ll see this meme on our blog.

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

New York Times bestselling author Renée Ahdieh returns with the second installment of her new sumptuous, sultry and romantic series, The Beautiful.

Following the events of The Beautiful, Sébastien Saint Germain is now cursed and forever changed. The treaty between the Fallen and the Brotherhood has been broken, and war between the immortals seems imminent. The price of loving Celine was costly. But Celine has also paid a high price for loving Bastien.
Still recovering from injuries sustained during a night she can’t quite remember, her dreams are troubled. And she doesn’t know she has inadvertently set into motion a chain of events that could lead to her demise and unveil a truth about herself she’s not quite ready to learn.
Forces hiding in the shadows have been patiently waiting for this moment for centuries. And just as Bastien and Celine begin to uncover the danger around them, they learn their love could tear them apart.

Look at that beauty of a cover! I can’t wait to add it to my collection. Last October The Beautiful was released and if you read my review you already know I enjoyed it very much. While this series was marketed as the new YA vampire story, that’s not necessarily how I would describe it. Yes, there is some mentioning of vampires, but it’s more of a historical murder mystery with a romance and some supernatural aspects. I adore the setting (historical New Orleans) and I really liked the characters.

The first book ended with a big OMG moment and I’m super excited to continue this series. I believe there are supposed the be four books in the end and I can’t wait to find out where this story is going. After finishing the first book I don’t think I have a good idea of what the story is truly going to be about and to be honest I haven’t even read the synopsis for The Damned. I like to be somewhat surprised and I already know I want to read this book so I don’t need to know what it’s about. It happens way to often that you read a synopsis and later realize some of those things don’t happen until halfway through the book. I don’t want to know that much!!

Okay, that was my little synopsis related rant haha. I think I made it clear I’m very excited for The Damned. We only have to wait a bit longer, just a month and a half or so. That means this sequel gets released pretty quickly, the first book got released less than a year before and I love it. Have you read The Beautiful? Are you excited for The Damned? Come talk to me in the comments!

  1. I struggled with The Beautiful so much last year when I read it. I started it and wasn’t a fan so watched a YouTube video where someone was ranting about it so I knew that it hadn’t been marketed properly (and that really annoyed me) and I kept reading it only the last couple of chapters that I flew through and loved. I’m hoping to really like book 2 more because book 1 disappointed me a bit! I’m glad you liked it though!

    1. Yeah I think the marketing department did a bad job with this one! So many people were disappointed because they were expecting a very different book. I’m happy to hear you did end up liking it! Hopefully book 2 is even better <3

  2. I need to read The Beautiful but I can’t wait. It’s been a long time since I read a vampire fantasy book.

    1. I really enjoyed the Beautiful but please don’t go in expecting a full on vampire book because you will be disappointed!

    1. I get why a lot of people had some troubles, I think they didn’t market this one right and there were a ton of expectations that weren’t met unfortunately. Hopefully you end up enjoying the second book if you do read it!
