Royal Update #18

We thought it was time for a fun new post every week. In the Royal Update one of us updates you about our personal life, bookish news, what we’re reading, watching and listening to and anything else that might apply to this post. We thought it would be fun to share a bit more about our personal lives and hope you think so too!

As Isabelle said last week, with all the stuff going on in the world and all of the restrictions, we don’t really do much at the moment. My life is basically work and home these days. I still really feel like I’m living in a movie when I see how everything has changed and how we even have to work these days.

Luckily, I’m pretty much an introvert, so it’s not too bad. The nicer weather has arrived, so hopefully I can sit in the yard soon with a book. One positive thing about being home more is that our kitty Shasta is finally becoming more of a cuddly kitty. She loves sitting near us, but she just started coming to sit on my lap as well.

When I first sat down to write this, I actually thought I did pretty well. I was wrong, haha. I’ve received three ARCs. That’s not too bad though.

Stone Princess – Devney Perry This is the third book in the Tin Gypsy series. I loved the first two and they left me add the edge of my seat. Stone Princess doesn’t release until May 5th, but the author wanted to give us some extra time to read the ARC. So sweet!

Lethal Queen Bee – Emily Kazmierski At the moment, I’m doing a re-read of Deadly First Day. I really love this book and wanted to dive back in the world before starting this sequel. My review will be posted soon.

My Life as an Album Series – LJ Evans All of these books have been published, but the author decided to release them as a boxset with a bonus story. Besides all four books, we get the short story This Life with Cam. This author writes amazing books and I’m so excited about this!

Last time I already mentioned that I was loving Scribd, because of all of the graphic novels. Since my last update, I’ve read Giant Days Vol. 2- 4, Goldie Vance Vol. 1 & 2, The Backstagers Vol. 2, Lumberjanes Vol. 2 and Fence Vol. 1 (which in this case was my own physical copy). I love graphic novels when I just want to read, but not have to think too much!

I also finished Penalty Box, Elantris, One Plus Two and  My Life as a Pop Album. I can recommend all of these books.

That’s where things get nuts, because I’m reading a lot of books at once. At the moment I’m currently listening to My Lady Jane. This is a reread and for a challenge for the Magical Readathon. I love buddy reads, so that helps me along with The Shadows Between Us, House of Earth and Blood (only 200 pages left and I’m scared), Aurora Rising and The Burning Sky. Besides that I’m also reading Kings of the Wyld and Deadly First Day.

Seeing how it’ll take awhile for me to finish some of these, the only books next on my TBR are for two other group reads I’m participating in The Black Witch and Wildcard.

Even though some books have been starting to get pushed back with everything in the world at the moment, there’s also been some fun bookish news:

Jennifer L. Armentrout surprised us all with a new book that was releasing as she typed the message. I can’t wait to dive into this one!

Audiobooks are something that I’ve come to really enjoy. I normally only listen on my commute to work. I only put it on while on the bus, so that’s about an hour every workday. I also listen when in the shower, but when the water is turned on, I don’t hear a thing. And I can’t exactly put my phone in the shower, so my boyfriend suggested a waterproof/wireless speaker. This just arrived yesterday and I already love it.

My boyfriend and I are still watching Sex Education (I really love this show), but I’ve also found The Big Bang Theory again. It’s not that I haven’t seen it before, because I’ve seen every episode. For me this is a show that will never get old and it makes me laugh. That’s something all of us need these days. All of the seasons are on Netflix, so I can keep myself busy for awhile.

I honesty really haven’t been listening to much music lately. When I sit downstairs and read, I’ve mostly just put the radio on in the background. If you’ve heard of any good songs lately, let me know!

So that’s my royal update for this week. I hope everyone is staying inside and staying safe. How have you been doing? If you’ve read any intersting books lately, I’d love to hear about them. Until the next royal update!
