Bates Motel has been on my to watch list for quite a while now. I adore Freddie Highmore in The Good Doctor and had heard great things about Bates Motel. So when a friend told me the Dutch Netflix would be removing it February 19th I knew I had to get started. And today I want to share some of my thoughts about this show!
A contemporary prequel to Psycho, giving a portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years, and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is.
There are 5 seasons of this thrilling show and it’s all about a bunch of very disturbing people haha. I haven’t watched Psycho but I do know what it’s about. The concept of this show is great, we get to see Norman when he is about 17 years old and some of the events that shaped him. Norman and his mom Norma have an insane relationship and I was cringing so much while watching this show haha. But it was a good cringe so to say, it’s meant to feel that way.
I’m almost at the end of season 3, so I didn’t completely managed to watch all the episodes before they got deleted. My friend and I tried to trick Netflix by downloading the remaining episodes and watching it in flight mode. Unfortunately they were prepared haha. The episodes we downloaded got deleted and so I have to find another way to watch the last of the show.
It’s difficult to pinpoint in what time this show is set exactly, but I do think that adds to the charm. At first I quite liked Norman but he quickly unravels and you’re not sure what to think anymore. Same with Norma, she has amazing qualities and loved her in some scenes. But at other moments I hate her and blame her for a lot of Norman’s problems haha. I do love Dylan, Emma and Alex! They are amazing characters that really grew on me.
There is some action, especially in the first season. I think there was the most action in the first season. After that there is a lot more focus on the psychological part of it all. But there is still some action to keep us on our toes! I can’t wait to continue watching this show and the stellar performance by Freddie! Have you see this show yet? Come talk to me in the comments!
